Side return extension.
Comments (3)We did this in our previous house if I understand correctly. I don't have my own photos but here is the link to the architects photos (this was a few years ago just before we moved in so excuse the white paint everywhere and the lack of finishing touches!) http://www.jimmorrisonarchitects.co.uk/Kitchen_extensions_belfast.html The glass roof was the full length and unusually the roof was designed sloping upwards which seemed to wow any new visitors and reflect the sun off the interior wall. The sloping roof was half plastered half glazed as the architect said it would be too bright fully glazed and he was right, the room was sunny and bright. The original 'middle room' was slightly darker but not particularly any different to the original room which had a tall sash window. We also kept the front room and that was definitely the right decision. Hope that helps, good luck with your project....See MorePOLL: Open-plan or closed layout?
Comments (22)Jan Johnson, I agree. Cooking fumes are always going to be a problem in open-plan living. Extractor fans get fancier but even some experts agree they're not that efficient. And even if they are, they're usually placed over the hob. What about the oven? Most ovens - Agas are an exception - blow the smells straight back into the kitchen. Very nice if you're baking bread or cakes; not so good for roast meat or anything containing onions. Like most things in interior design (flush-faced doors, blocked off Victorian fireplaces, fake-stone chimney breasts, feature walls) open-plan is a fashion. When it falls out of favour, we'll all be putting back the stud walls the previous owners demolished....See MoreLarge garden, small house or small garden, big house?
Comments (74)Large gardens are all well and good if have the energy & ability and you can afford the time (or money) for maintenance, but it's not always ideal. The size of garden should be appropriate to the size of house and appropriate for the lifestyle of the owners....See MoreHorrendous small bathroom
Comments (5)Would you have a floor plan with marked doors and windows? A rough sketch should do If you are planning on extending in the upcoming year or so, I wouldn't redo the bathroom...See MoreCakelady
