barn door style bipass doors for a closet

I am working on an idea for closet doors & wonder if anyone has seen anything like this used. I want to create 2 door way openings to a single closet (his & her sides) with a wall in the middle of the opening for the doors to slide to. My thought was that I would like to use the barn door style sliding doors (one mounted on the inside of the wall & the other on the outside) that would each slide towards the center wall instead of having them opening from the center out. I am not concerned about not being able to put furniture or anything on that wall. I am looking to create separation of the closet without creating separate closets entirely. The doors will be open most of the time so I like the idea that they "disappear" & don't take up floor space when not being use. I would love any links anyone has to pictures like this or pros & cons of my idea as well.

Putting one on the inside may be difficult, because there will be a gap between the doors that is pretty big (5-8" depending on the wall thickness). You can put them in the same plane (inside or outside) and have them slide apart, if you have the room on the wall. If you do need bi-pass, because you can only go one direction with the wall, it still can work. Most companies that make the barn door style hardware make a bi-pass version. Some, stack the tracks, some have a double track etc. If you do that, I would recommend putting it on the outside, because the hardware is pretty expensive and decorative; hiding it inside would be a shame. If you want to hide it inside, just attach a ledger to the wall inside raised above the opening a bit and use typical bi-pass hardware on the inside. That will be really cheap and easy to do.

For some reason I read this as a barn conversion hence asking for the footprint! I don't know the answer to this hence asking but have you researched whether having a slightly smaller 1st floor will result in significant savings? Maybe it's an idea to have plan a and b when you talk to the company. Just a thought anyway as it would be nice to have an en suite etc with all those grandchildren. Will also help with resale unless this is your forever home. Thanks so the mudroom is 4'5. I thought the plan showed 14'5 hence why I asked initially, probably my eyes! My initial thoughts for the stairs were in the playroom ( or the mudroom if it were 14'). I don't know if there are any fire regulations stipulating that the doors need to be within x feet of stairs. I'll see if I can take a look anyway as I'm just guessing

Overall surely your poll is largely redundant? i think that the style of door should match the style of house or the build intention if a challenge is the plan. we are having this door dilemma at the moment. i voted wooden because that is what we will be having upstairs (i am not adventurous enough to have glass bathroom doors!) but downstairs pocket doors are our plan and am unsure how far to go with design as all, barring one, will be hidden 99% of the time.
