I live in a appt complex that has concrete patios- all the common area are pairing a flat boringish grey. Our unit has essentially two exterior rooms, ie large patios. I painted ours sand colour on advice, as we are near the beach and from one patio, the biggest, there are views of the water. THE PROBLEM: it was a bad choice, shows all the regular build up from car exhaust and ocean airborne dust, plus our beautiful cactus planters weep a light brown colour when water, sort of staining the area (see photo). It not practical to have this wash down every few days, both for labour and water conservation reasons, so I want o repaint a darker colour to hide a Niger percentage of surface grim...but can't decide criteria to choose. Also dark will be hotter on foot after hours in sun BUT no one goes out in space barefoot be a use of ocean dust/ car dust anyhow....any advice how to settler on a darker colour?

Ok so I did a few tests. Pink is shed/fence paint. I thought I had Cuprinol garden shades but it was Wilko’s own brand equivalent, similar stuff tho. Absorbed quite well but a bit thin and obvious acrylic content which the paint is intended to have for water resistance. White is chalk paint. I used Aldi brand. Didn’t absorb too well but great coverage. Red is fabric dye. Just wanted to try this out as I had some sitting in the cupboard. You can see where I painted it (darker blotch in the middle) and the paler edge is where the dye has bled out so wouldn’t recommend this for stenciling. Just as a reference I also did the same test on unfinished soft pine. In all cases I would use a sealant on top. Also did a weathering test which I will post in next comment.

Polished concrete floors, as the name suggests, are effectively poured concrete floors. Concrete that has been treated with a chemical densifier and ground to create a smooth polished surface. Stains and dyes can be applied to enhance polished concrete, giving it a wide aesthetic appeal in addition to a functional one. such floors will last a life time and are relatively easy to maintain and repair. Epoxy floors are made of epoxy resin that again is poured onto the existing screed and once cured are hard wearing and come in a variety of different colours and designs. Epoxy floors are somewhat more technical with better temperature and chemical resistance and are often used in commercial or industrial applications. in both cases you will need a team of professional installers that will also be able to guide you toward the best product for your home.

Option 2 Can I have the concrete finished to glue engineered wood straight down? Yes you can as long as there is a DPM Is an epoxy DPM sandwich something that is done with a self-levelling compound? is the floor not level with the rest of the house? First level the floor than apply a surface DPM Can I get away without two whole screeds considering the new concrete is at a good level? Is there anyway of salvaging the front room oak? No way of salvaging it I am afraid. You could spend hours to scrape it at back but it will be messy to save very little. And then you'll have to match a new floor with the old one. I’m also in the process of re-doing damp proofing that wasn’t done properly first time round so having the bare concrete now enables me to have the full Sovereign tanking system applied. I can’t afford to do this everywhere though, but I’m particularly anxious about moisture getting to the floor from the sides which is something it mitigates against. Are there other ways of doing this? I think that if you had problems with moisture in the past, you need to address it once and for all. Once the problem is solved through the house then you can look at ways of installing your wood floor. Floating floor fitted on top on an adequate moisture barrier and overlay will do the job very well and you won't be able to feel the difference with a glued down floor. hope this helps
