What to do with gap between hearth and floorboards

Following restoration of floorboards we have been left with a gap between them and the fireplace hearth. Has anyone any idea or suggestions what to do with this?

There's a couple of potential solutions:

Fill gap with wood/cement then buy a deeper slate/granite hearth to cover this area. Probably the simplest and most visually effective solution.

Cut the edge of the floorboards back evenly across the whole length of the hearth and install closely matching piece of wood going lengthways.

Again fill with cement and cover with a row of smallish traditional fireplace tiles in black - take this around the whole slate hearth to make it look more of a feature.

Personally I would do the top option, getting a new slate hearth cut and installed shouldn't cost more than £200-300.

If you can't go with a new hearth then framing the current one in square tiles to match existing would be a good option

It is easier and more cost affective to produce a board that's shorter to allow ventilation than to produce a board the correct size - then re cut a circular hole - then buy and fit a vent ( that may fall out at some point). Crown have been going for years and do so because they supply a great product at the right price ... To change this one thing would increase overheads and make them a more expensive product . If you really dislike the look - you could perhaps add an L shape strip that's fixed to underside of worktop and sits forward of the gap - so air can still flow - but you don't see the gap from the front, into each cupboard. i think that's one way you will keep the airflow, but avoid seeing the view behind the cabinets that you dislike. Hi Aman, I think RGB backlit, toughened glass filling would be really, really nice, especially during the barbecue parties for upcoming summer. After installation, you will be able to change its colours in real time using a pilot or any other kind of device, it is up to you. We can do that in less than two-three weeks I guess but I would need gap dimensions to make an no obligations quote for you. Hi all, thanks for all your suggestions! @Victoria, @Jonathan Early on in the process, we did enquire about whether they'd consider selling their cooker. But it didn't lead to anywhere. As we didn't quite know the condition of it, and they're now in the process of moving it out to their new place, we thought it's better to get a new one ourselves (mid-range) if it wasn't straightforward to replace it with a normal cooker. @Daisy England Space is about 100cm and with a standard cooker, probably about a space of 40cm left. Not sure what to put there so it doesn't look out of place. @Ellie I was thinking like a trolley but for condiments etc. maybe? but need to sort of fit into the whole aesthetic of the kitchen... I don't have a pic unfortunately! I think we might end up just getting a range cooker - especially if the cost of remodelling kitchen tops to fit a standard cooker plus a standard cooker works out the same as just getting a range cooker!

Hi Teenytinyhouse (what a great name!) - Yes in your first example (with the diagonal corner wall unit) you need another unit to finish the run and you might perhaps consider a 150mm wide open 'pigeon hole' wall unit or even a 150mm wall unit with pull out mechanism? Although I personally think the diagonal corner wall is fighting with the base unit L-Shape so perhaps a standard corner wall design (as above) is the better option? Good luck :)
