What to do with gap between hearth and floorboards
Comments (2)There's a couple of potential solutions: Fill gap with wood/cement then buy a deeper slate/granite hearth to cover this area. Probably the simplest and most visually effective solution. Cut the edge of the floorboards back evenly across the whole length of the hearth and install closely matching piece of wood going lengthways. Again fill with cement and cover with a row of smallish traditional fireplace tiles in black - take this around the whole slate hearth to make it look more of a feature. Personally I would do the top option, getting a new slate hearth cut and installed shouldn't cost more than £200-300....See MoreBifolds - is 2.4m enough to bother?
Comments (29)Great work! In terms of sliding doors, at 2.4m there is possibly just enough room to fit a three panel door in, which would reduce the amount of frame. As a guide our bifold doors have intermediate frames of 114mm which makes them amongst the narrowest on the market, we have two sliding door systems Grand Slider II (83mm frame) and theEDGE (24mm frame) so it does make a difference, however you'd only ever be able to have 2/3 of the opening open, compared to the whole opening with bifolds. The image of theEDGE is obviously of a much larger system/opening but shows how the profile looks in a 3 panel set....See MoreHow to fill gaps between kitchen units and cooker space?
Comments (5)Hi all, thanks for all your suggestions! @Victoria, @Jonathan Early on in the process, we did enquire about whether they'd consider selling their cooker. But it didn't lead to anywhere. As we didn't quite know the condition of it, and they're now in the process of moving it out to their new place, we thought it's better to get a new one ourselves (mid-range) if it wasn't straightforward to replace it with a normal cooker. @Daisy England Space is about 100cm and with a standard cooker, probably about a space of 40cm left. Not sure what to put there so it doesn't look out of place. @Ellie I was thinking like a trolley but for condiments etc. maybe? but need to sort of fit into the whole aesthetic of the kitchen... I don't have a pic unfortunately! I think we might end up just getting a range cooker - especially if the cost of remodelling kitchen tops to fit a standard cooker plus a standard cooker works out the same as just getting a range cooker!...See MoreBifold replacement dilemma
Comments (11)When we originally planned our extension, I wanted one big open space. It was the architect who suggested the bifolds, and I’m so glad that he did! Apart from the odd party, we never really open it up. It’s actually a really cosy sitting room with its own wood burner. The children are now teenagers, and it’s mainly their space. They regularly have a house full of young people and we can be in the kitchen and literally not hear them!...See MoreAnglian Home Improvements
