Have lakeport tile and having very difficult time matching house color ... Help!!

They say a house is not a home unless there's someone living there and that is true, for once someone moves into a house, that house gets a personality and becomes a home. My home is a mix of me, someone I'd like to be and clutter I should throw out. It is warm, inviting and a home that is filled with memories. I enjoy all the things associated with a home, my TV dramas, films, garden and oddities, such as my quirky bathroom, with its old fashioned coloured bathroom suite, Persian rug and teddy bear, which I refuse to change regardless of fashion. My home is me; I don't need the dramas of the outside world, my home has seen enough to rival any on TV and through it all, my home has looked after me and I it. Pale duck egg type colours are amazing for being bright during the day but deepening by lamplight. I can recommend Craig and rose's 'porcelain blue' which I've just put in my bedroom. Possibly similar to the F&B colour mentioned above but definitely more to the blue side. As above, it changes through the day: in early morning it is nearly white, then a cool light blue, then soft warm duck egg with a definite hint of green, and in lamplight in intensifies to a richer blue. Divine colour! I'm totally envious of your living room. It is stunning! It does look dark but be wary of trying to go too light and bright. Old houses with low ceilings and cottagey windows are unlikely to ever be scandi-style light, so think vivid colour instead of pale tones. However, I do wonder if a lot of the darkness in the living room comes from the carpet. I wonder what's underneath it? If it's floor boards that can be sanded or painted to pale you may find the room will look instantly brighter. Team that with pale tones in furniture and bright colours on the walls ... In all honesty, I think you'll end up with a stunning room no matter what with that age and character (but I'm a historian, so I would say that!!).

I think your instinct is spot on - the grey does not go with your lovely house at all! You said yourself, 'the grey craze', why follow the herd? Perhaps you should question why you want a 'contemporary colour' instead of one of the many choices which will enhance your beautiful period house. You don't see lovely pink Suffolk cottages, or the black and white half timbered houses characteristic of some areas daubed with grey because it's the latest fad.

It could be anything. But what can work really well is to frame something that means something to you. For instance, we have framed a pocket watch I bought my wife. It never worked, but it was beautiful. So we set it to the time our son was born and put it in a frame. Silly gifts, especially if they are a little left of field can look great in a frame, as long as they mean something to you. Their beauty is deeper then. My wife always wanted a bubble car, so I bought her a tiny model of one, that's in a frame too. The nice thing about how. you have done your frame is that you can keep changing it. The plants against the black look good, ferns can look especially good in this sort of setting (and make the aire nicer too).
