Do you like this fire place surround?
Comments (50)We do have a Steptoe's up here not far from us but it's (dare I say it) wretched! Dark, not clean, badly organised. The one near you, though, AMAZING! We go down every year and take two big cars (we have a Picasso and our friends who live in Devon have a Forester), lol, fill them to the brim every year:) Last year we ended up shipping a lot of it back to Scotland as otherwise we wouldn't have got us, the luggage, and the Roo in to go home!...See MoreWhat would you do with this fireplace?
Comments (17)Thanks Gary - looks great and it's made me rethink how viable my budget really is...As we also need to decorate, do some replastering, new skirting boards, maybe do some re-wiring, get a new carpet and some Roman blinds made for the bay window. Some great money saving tips, thanks Steve. I think I'm going to get a fireplace guy to come and look at how viable the fireplace is in terms of having a wood burner and how much it would cost to change it and then have a think. I'm also loving the idea of getting a cheap wooden fire surround -maybe a secondhand one off eBay and painting it up in a contesting colour - like the attached image but not the same colours - probably a vibrant orange.. I also love 1940's and 1950's tiled fireplaces as would have probably been there originally - but the repro versions or decent old ones are so privy.....See MoreSimple fireplace improvements?
Comments (8)I would embrace the simplicity and centralising it is probably difficult if not impossible. perhaps focus on creating visual interest to the left and/or above the fire - e.g. a L-shaped layout of pictures or wall art. Add trim to the other three sides that goes with the bottom rail - depending on how much heat the fire gives out, you could simply use wood trim and paint black or try strips of granite/ heat proof glass....See MoreWhat I can do is the best and simple designing
