Tell us one item you'd love to have in your home!
Comments (102)I'm feeling pleased to say I have now be later in life been enjoying some of the things I'd love to have, for some time so they don't count for my 'one thing I'm still hoping for..' I love my upmarket induction hob with timer that saves my food from my memory when distracted by a phone call for a chat-length of time; no day goes by without the thrill of pulling open my kitchen's larder cupboard where the contents are so visible and high space is utilised. I agree with ? about having a bidet and have just had one installed and another wish - a walk-in shower Yeah!...See MoreTell us: Do you have any home renovation regrets?
Comments (32)Whilst I recognise there's a few tradespeople on here bemoaning fussy clients I have to say my biggest regrets when renovating my house was not being specific enough with trades! We had an electrician put in an extra light switch in the hall to control both the downstairs and upstairs lighting. He put it in a good 10-15cm lower than the other switch further along the same wall which looked completely ridiculous. Made him move it in line with the other one much to his annoyance. Another similar incident was with a vertical column rad for the kitchen - whilst I was specific enough this time to ask it be centered to the wall it was on, he installed it much higher than needed with about 30cm of pipe sticking out the bottom! It would have looked much better in line with the doorframe adjacent. Had to learn to live with that one. We had engineered wood floors put in upstairs - the fitter used the shortest wall in the smallest room to take a plumbline from. When it came into the hall it was obviously on a complete wonk. By this point I'd gotten a bit better at speaking up and ensuring we actually got what was needed (and paid for!). He had to take it up and re-lay using the hall as the plumbline. Looked so much better but he was extremely annoyed! After all this I learned to use masking tape to direct exactly where pipes/light switches/trim should be fitted so there was no room for 'interpretation'. I also forced myself to speak up more and advocate for what I really wanted. That said I'm a designer by trade so I generally know what I want and how to make it look good but was definitely a bit too shy to contradict trades in the beginning!...See MorePlanning permission now submitted, what do we do now? Comments (8)I think you should plan your kitchen much earlier. Firstly it might affect some choices with the building- like electrics, lighting, internal door positions and extraction. You should also consider what type of kitchen you want as some will take lots longer to arrive- for example if you wanted a German kitchen this would likely take 8/9 weeks to arrive, this could be more for certain finishes, some European manufacturers close down over the summer so you may need to factor in a 4 week August shutdown too. Lastly I have seen lots of debate on this forum and many people spend significant time getting the right layout, your kitchen showroom will need a little time to process the order and overall the time between first visiting a showroom a having a kitchen delivered could be 18 weeks. If your builder starts an 8 week build in October then you will need your kitchen at the end of November which means (including August shutdown) you need to start planning your kitchen at the end of June, although there is no harm in looking now....See MoreTELL US: bathroom renovation plans 2018
Comments (3)Hi there - we are planning to get your Sensia Arena washlet in its floor mounted form but can only find the wall hung version available. Can you please direct us to a distributor/source that offers the former? Many thanks....See Moreianthy
