What Type of sash window furniture

Hi I am getting 2 new sash windows and want the ironmongery to be satin chrome - would your recommend Fitch Fastners or Brighton Fasteners ? What is in ? Also what type of sash lifts do you recommend ? Thank you Jackie

Firstly, we'd recommend you opt for Secured by Design (SBS) Police approved fitch fasteners. Most ranges are then normally available in a range of colour options (e.g. brass, antique brass, chrome, satin-nickel, antique). Check Mighton furniture at mightonproducts.com as they're one of the recognised suppliers used by high-end sash timber window companies.

I opt for Brighton's generally on the grounds of tamper proof and strong. You don't need quite the same tolerance on the meeting rail height which can be handy at times (especially when some windows are hard to align) My supplier does a locking version which is popular now.

The single catch (any catch) will be weak on its own so i'd suggest applying vent bolts also. These can be fitted on two stages (dead lock or vent) and basically give each sash three point locking in dead stage, and limit opening height at the vent stage. Hope this helps

Pale duck egg type colours are amazing for being bright during the day but deepening by lamplight. I can recommend Craig and rose's 'porcelain blue' which I've just put in my bedroom. Possibly similar to the F&B colour mentioned above but definitely more to the blue side. As above, it changes through the day: in early morning it is nearly white, then a cool light blue, then soft warm duck egg with a definite hint of green, and in lamplight in intensifies to a richer blue. Divine colour! I'm totally envious of your living room. It is stunning! It does look dark but be wary of trying to go too light and bright. Old houses with low ceilings and cottagey windows are unlikely to ever be scandi-style light, so think vivid colour instead of pale tones. However, I do wonder if a lot of the darkness in the living room comes from the carpet. I wonder what's underneath it? If it's floor boards that can be sanded or painted to pale you may find the room will look instantly brighter. Team that with pale tones in furniture and bright colours on the walls ... In all honesty, I think you'll end up with a stunning room no matter what with that age and character (but I'm a historian, so I would say that!!).

I would definitely not use curtains, they will shrink the room! If you want to add a soft touch and texture you could use Roman Blinds p, which fold so you can keep them up like a pelmet. I would either use white linen, or something neutral like this one called Postcard Natural from Web Blinds. http://www.web-blinds.com/postcard-natural-roman-blind/ For the kitchen I would use a faux wood, wide slotted blind, which is moisture resistant, can be pulled right up or be tilted to provide just the right amount of privacy or shade. Thanks for the replies. @Ellie I think my partner got the idea of a horizontal one from a one pitch roof photo on here. they do look really nice. @oneplan that's a really good point re lining up windows if they are horizontal. Although I think long horizontal ones is the builders last choice as he says they'll take longer to install. We're paying a day rate so trying to get everything pinned down in advance and as slick as possible. Our internal layout is slightly different to the floor plan I added to the comments. The kitchen is going in the centre in the 'old' extension (front of the house is Victorian and existing extension is 1990s). The new extension will have the sitting area on the left and the dining area on the right (so the opposite of the floor plan). This is because the wood burner will need to go on the left side and we want the seating area around that. Do you have any thoughts on narrow vehicle windows one on either side for the gable roof? I'll try to find the photo of what I mean. Thanks

Thank you both for taking the time to reply. I think one of the rooms might well end up with green accents, but I don't think I would like green furniture - would prefer something neutral so that if we wanted to change the colour scheme in the future we could easily without having to replace the furniture. I suspect the other (master) bedroom will end up a more coastal colour scheme. @Sonia, thank you I had been looking at the Cotswold Company so that's good to hear their stuff might work quite nicely. Sadly we don't live that close to any of their stores and I tend to like to see furniture in the flesh but perhaps we'll have to make a trek. Would still be interested to hear what wood types/colours would work best as I don't really like all matching furniture in a room, so I suspect we'll want to have various different items in each of the two bedrooms,.
