New book shelves

We have had fitted bookshelves in our sitting room. They fit either side of our settee, and are attached by a lintel. All the upright parts of the shelves are MDF and are going to be painted to match the doors and skirting board. The actual shelves are going to be left as these are oak. We want to light up the shelves, the carpenter has left the space inside the lintel available to fit lights. What style of lights should we go for? I'm really confused by the choice available. We live on the coast in a modern, stone built barn conversion. We love books and reading. This is our only sitting room. I would appreciate any ideas, thank you
