What curtain headings to use?

I can't decide what typ of curtain headings to go so would love some advice please? With lots of help from this forum I have gone from

to this

I'm not overlooked & so never close the curtains. I'm looking for a clean simple look but a bit of warmth to the room. I had always avoided eyelets but they seem to be more on trend & have improved or are pleats still "in"? Fabric would probably be silky or linen like in a plain

The wallpaper is simple & elegant - quite a feat for a 70s house so want to follow that without going OTT

any ideas welcome.

The wallpaper looks fab, I would go with eyelet curtains to give the clean lines you're looking for. For warmth I would go for chenille or velvet fabric in a neutral colour to tone in with the wallpaper. I would keep the length slightly long so the bottom of the curtain 'puddles' on the floor.

I would have said go for eyelet but as you're going for such a thin material they may look a bit skimpy on such a big door so would go for something with more pleats. Well done on the wallpapering btw, it looks great and looks so much lighter!

I have been running my soft furnishings company for over 8 years and I would say 95% of clients choose pleated heading curtains rather then eyelet curtains. This is because eyelet curtains can tend to look a little 'off the shelf' and hand pleated curtains look more luxurious. :-)

O god I think it worked after 20 tries. This is it now .. curtains closed. I'm a single mom who just lost her job so right now I don't have money for a size made roller blind. But I am looking for some help in finding the right color curtains for the room. I was thinking about: a brown color, but I think it would have to match the furniture or it would look weird.. or a light brown perhaps.. or full white but somehow I am scared that will look clinical ór a greyish look to match the floor wich might look and match good but I'm afraid it will make the room more gloomy and

Hi, the problem your having is easily rectified, using either a Silent Gliss Track or Metropole. These have ether brackets fitted to the rear, or top, allowing a width of 600cm in one piece, and to be able to use a single curtain.try just poles for the products, and they may be able to help. Yep - I'd go for eyelets too. Take the pole well beyond the window, you have the space, so that the your curtains don't hide any light. Most fabrics work well as eyelets. If you like a lighter weight fabric try interlining your curtain. This will give you a cosy insulation as well as making the curtains look fabulous. My preference is for acrylic interlining which is a little lighter and more manageable than cotton 'bump'. I work for a long established co. in the south east which hand makes curtains in the traditional manner (C&H) and I can confirm that eyelets are very definitely on-trend. Good luck, your wallpaper looks brilliant and really lifts the room.

Hi missm61,

if your looking for curtains that look nice and full when stacked back and with a timeless style. I would suggest cartridge heading. They will still hang very nicely but are more timeless than eyelets which are very much on trend at the moment. Pleats are slightly more traditional but will never be out of fashion.

if you go for a silk or faux silk I would suggest having the curtains interlined as well as lined as silk can look a bit limp if not lined correctly. If you get a lot of sun through the windows steer away from silks as the sun will destroy the fabric within a few years.

I'd agree with the cartridge heading suggestion. I wouldn't recommend them to be too long so that they puddle on the floor though. My pet hate as a photographer is trying to make them hang nicely and look good when they touch the floor. I can often spend ten minutes just trying to get them look okay. Just skimming above the floor would be my reccomendation.

I agree with http://www.houzz.co.uk/pro/info6155/christina-harding , Eyelets in my opinion have never looked nice! They never went in a 70's house and they don't belong there now. I have Cartridge pleats at home. Simple and elegant, timeless too. I like to splash out a little on curtains, nothing worse than thin, skimpy material, especially as it's a wide, tall window. Go for something plush, yet plain in a warm feel. Chenille, slub velvet or wool, which is on trend at the moment. Fabrics and Papers have a wonderful range, and if you go on Facebook, you can probably find someone to make them in your local area and buy the material yourself if you can't find anything that you like ready made! Your room is looking lovely and light. You haven't mentioned if you are reusing your red sofa again or changing the furniture. The heading that you choose is a reflection of the style you're trying to create. Eyelets are fine if you never close the curtains and want a very contemporary look, but cartridge pleats would look plush and more transitional. I'm assuming from the previous comments that you intend to use a pole. You will need to take it to the left hand wall, but leave wall showing on the right since your patio doors are not symmetrically placed. You can use a chunky pole 50-60mm diameter and a WOW finial. Use interlining for a luxurious look. The curtains will be dearer but will last longer, especially if your doors face south. If you do want to use silk, select a wide contrasting cotton border on the leading edges to deal with fading.
