Kitchen Bar/ Peninsula

Hi,
We are having our new kitchen fitted and due to a fault in the designers the over hang on the peninsula will only be 6 1/2 inches! This will not be used for eating as we have a dining table but we would like to put some bar stools under it and use it as a seating area whilst having friends over to have a drink whilst we are cooking. Is this going to be too narrow? Will it look silly? I have looked at local pubs and their overhang is around the same and they have bar stools under it!

Hello, I think a T shape Kitchen can be amazing as it is something different and a bit unusual. With a great design everything it can be achieved and you can make your space enjoyable to your standards. An Island would give dimension to your Kitchen and remember that there are multiple styles you can pick and combine. If you wouldn't like that cause you believe it will take your space, than why not have a 'living' area or a Bar with some chairs? Loving the island thanks. Feels really open. We dropped the ceiling height when it's non kitchen to differentiate spaces/zones for dining v's kitchen. We haven't got round to buying stools for island yet and not sure we will, with the dining table being so near and a toddler who likes to run around it!

I think the gap as discussed previously on your other post, is big enough. You would be best to get your Kitchen designer to do a 3d render for you so that you can see it how it is and then make up your mind. I think aesthetically wise that if you have your peninsula across exactly half the space that it may look better, and not have a lot to do with the access size.

My vote would be for option 1 but it’s all about personal preferences. I prefer my kitchen work area to be separated from people who are in the kitchen to socialise. So for me the peninsula layout is ideal (although I would move the hob to the side run as others have suggested. My kids refused to sit at our old kitchen island when it had a hob on it. They said they’d rather be splashed from a tap than from a hot pan) Also if it were my house I would also make the kitchen slightly more compact so the distance between the oven run and the peninsula was slightly smaller which would also slightly enlarge the dining zone (this is assuming the pillar could also be moved/reduced) But again thats completely my personal preference for a more compact kitchen triangle. Ultimately go with what makes you happy, you’re the one paying for it & living in it everyday.
