Table lamp?? If yes, what scale & type?

always liked the idea of a table lamp on the radiator cover but struggling with the height & style it would need to be. suggestions in the uk?

Kitchens are a big expense - especially the chairs so I would match them to the units - the set you showed matches the colours of the chairs with the units really well, BUT, 1. The pine top doesn't work and 2. You need to add a bit of pzaz to this space. You can paint or cover the pine top with whatever colours / textures you choose as accents then follow these colours through into the pictures and the odd accessory (but don't go mad and keep most of the kitchen utensils and tools in the same colour as the background so they 'disappear' - only use subtle accent colours on gorgeous items so they stand out). This way, if you get bored with your scheme you can just change the accessories and the table top colour rather than the whole lot. Feel free to email me for more help. Different ceiling heights - yes, no, but if?

Hello R countryside, One way to view the idea of differing heights re the ceiling is to approach this from an entirely different angle... Rather than consider the heights of the ceilings and worry about them. Instead focus on the decor height of the internal walls.. Ie where you paint or paper up to. Or consider floor and walls together to create a feeling of space. Another way to create a seamless and coherent look within the extension is to decorate with the same palette throughout... It doesn't have to be magnolia... It could be any colour either dramatic or more muted.. Consider too the possibility that you keep the palette the same from walls to ceiling.. Several visual examples for you to look at for inspiration too to compliment what I am suggesting here. One of my favourites is to colour block, and this can be another way to add a dramatic decor that you can taper off to the desired height and keep above to a single colour or not... :)) A period property but you can clearly see how the colour can swiftly dictate an eye level, and above picture rail height the cornice and ceiling is treated as one. Of course you don't need skirting, dado, picture rails to paint these. It is an old but a favoured decorating technique, that is surprisingly versatile... Here I would have painted the skirting either the same or a shade up or down depending on the flooring.. So you can dictate how the eye sees the rooms by deciding the heights (ie the wall decor) so to speak.. Here's the same principle but at dado height... (for some reason they're all dark which I love but they can be a palette you love.. Or be bold with a colour and do everything one colour with a shade darker on the ceiling.. This will reduce the height. The same could be applied to 1 colour in entirety. Then you add interest and texture with everything else! Furniture, lighting, placement, collections.. the possibilities are endless... 1 colour need not be boring. It then relies on texture the air of intrigue in your furnishings and lighting.. Also consider the heights of lighting.. Pendants or clustered lighting can be low and offer a dramatic statement over a table or a side table for example. Or a favourite reading chair.... Steer clear from ceiling acne ( my term for spot lighting) instead look to floor lights, wall lighting which can have an upwards illumination but of a more diffused and interesting appearance overall... For a softer glow.. Colour blocking is really fantastic you can be creative and still continue a theme throughout... The variations are really endless and can be considered on the flooring as well for wood floors... :))

Thanks all and sorry for the lack of response! E D: on the curtain fabric I was thinking of something like velvet or similar but as you say cotton may fold better...I am going to a fabric shop tomorrow so will have a good look at what they've got. Sarah: thanks for your suggestion, really like your choice!! But yes something with a shade may be better for our room... Ribena: drape and pool is exactly what I was thinking off thanks!!! And it had passed through my mind to have some cream wooden slated blinds also so just have the curtains for dress. Minnie: liking your suggestions...still very keen on curtains tho. As we Have space it would probably work better as you say to move the bedsides away from the bed a little. Will do some experimenting!! Also love the chair idea!! Hadn't thought of that but definitely nice to have a chair in a guest room :-) Gina: thanks v much also, liking those lights! Definately needs to be something minimal as you say... Really love these but not quite as willing to pay the price!!! a lot of food for thought! thanks all :-))

Design dilemma - off centre pendant lights yes or no

One of my friends had a similar situation in his old house and normally the lighting being off centre would bug me just because I like the symmetry. However what he did was to position them so they were centred over his dining table instead which was in a similar position to where your green square is and it looked great. The fact they were in context with the furniture made the fact they weren't centred in the room a complete non-issue.

Hi

Do you know these they were big a while ago.

Cubed Salt lamps when not on they are white and then when on they have a lovely glow to them, a pair of these either side of the mirror might be nice.

Just and idea.
