KITCHEN REMODEL DO YOU LIKE IT????

Hi guys im back with a update to my kitchen remodel do you think I have pulled off the two tone look? kept my lovely solid oak top units and replaced the lower units and window sills and lighting. I LOVE IT THINK ITS VERY CUTE and I think my original greeney grey tiles and repainted terracotta boarder tiles work with my terracotta floor so saved me loads of extra work. im happy with it think its updated it but still kept lovely classic english look hope I love it for another 20+ years which is the age of the solid oak units. Your comments will be much appreciated. photos on my phone so limited quality all hardware is antique brass to suit New Smeg appliances and original hardware. worktop was replaced last year lovely corian but was not working with old dated doors but look fresh with this lovely sage grey door colouri

Love the sage green. The oak looks its age and I think it should all be done in the sage green. It would looks great.

@chunkysox thank you for your comments my husband agrees with you. im still not sure as the solid oak is so beautiful and unlike the base units the top units are hardly used and in great condition. This is the look I am trying to achieve see image but in reverse think it looks so fresh I worked with what I had due to tight budget. May consider retiling also at some point

We rent unfurnished, so always have our own furniture around us. I don't go in TOO much for the soft furnishings (rugs, cushions, curtains, throws), as they are cluttersome and really interefere with a low-maintenance life. Moreover, sadly, my posters, paintings and photographs have had to stay in storage for about five years, due to increasing fussiness by landlords/ -ladies about holes in the walls. HOWEVER, it is crucial to have ENOUGH of your own things around you, so that the web of YOUR things covers over a space which is, essentially, not yours. Minimalism has definite limits. Our last place had revolting dull mustard yellow walls, which definitely needed covering! Bookcases (with books!), a folding screen/ room divider, tension rods to create hanging rails, and one big rug (for the sitting room) come with us everywhere, like the interior of some sort of nomad's yurt! Seasonal and fresh decorations are another way to decorate a temporary home, and they leave only biodegradable waste, rather than broken MDF or shattered plastic! Leaf-skeletons on a string and rosehip-studded twigs (snap off the thorns!) for autumn (Fall). Holly, ivy and dried wildflowers for winter. Fresh wildflowers for spring and summer. Herbs in the kitchen.

Ellie, if you look on Moores Kitchens website, I believe (and don't quote me) that the Homebase 'made for you kitchen' range, is actually a Moores Kitchens. in the Definitive range, called Kensington. http://www.moores.co.uk/definitive/the-ranges/ I don't know what the price difference is, or whether Moores are more local to you than Homebase maybe, so just thought I would mention it.

See below the plan of the house as I bought it: Practically I have removed the partition walls as I wanted to open the space up and the wall between the bath and the kitchen as it was affected by damp. Here is how it looks now: I can play around only this space as the other walls are load bearing. One of the builders assured me we can chase the drain pipes without much hassle. The hallway would have some light through the kitchen door and its transom with the larger kitchen option. In case of the smaller kitchen, there would be plenty of light in the hallway from the bathroom and kitchen as I considered glass between kitchen and hallway. Thanks

Definitely. My original kitchen was developer’s kitchen —ie, it photographed well but did not function. The only place to put a table in the kitchen itself would have been in front of the back door, which is itself a natural thoroughfare from the open plan living room. Now I have a lovely breakfast bar/peninsula facing the brightest part of the kitchen, and I can easily spend hours there over breakfast, brunch or coffee. Dinner I tend to eat in front of the tv, and when I’ve visitors the main table in the dining room is used.

I like the above picture however I think your oak has more pattern to it making it look older. Have you considered removing the cornice, that may help? x

thats a thought its difficult to photograph with my mobile but the oak is very mellow and lovely and to replace the units in like for like solid oak would be so expensive as all my kitchen fitters have confirmed that is why im so reluctant to loose them plus I love them but yes perhaps they would look more modern with cornice removed????? I am very eclectic in my tastes so perhaps thats why I like this look and I love the petrol greeney blue tiles colour but wished they were more metro shaped I painted the boarder tile myself :) and was pleased with my two day effort for me but the finish is not good enough to do the whole area. I will endeavour to improve it but for now I am very happy with the refreshing change and have had lots of good comments so far. love this island unit wished I could find one like it lovely colours and vibe bit rustic bit industrial so must be me I like a mix up looki
