Need help with layout change please for more open feel!
Comments (19)Yep agree, it would be nicer to move in to a brand new house designed to our spec but unless we win the lottery this weekend that probably won't happen, haha! So this is the only way! Hopefully we will love it once it's all done. I'm just a bit OCD about tidiness and cleanliness so think I will drive my husband nuts! Cleaning up every five minutes!! It's literally not been touched in years, in fact most of it is original 1930s! Thanks again, it's such a great help, getting ideas from knowledgable and enthusiastic people on here....See MoreA lounge with a more contemporary feel
Comments (12)Definitely. You can inject contemporary feel in the space through a selection of pieces and elements. The wall paint, if you paint the glass doors as well, will be the first step towards more contemporary look. Then I would choose 1/ lighting - statement contemporary ceiling pendant (not glam or glass, but more timeless, modern - check our voga.com for example), nice tall table lamps - a pair of them on either side of sofa to define the height, symmetry and balance and/or contemporary floor lamp for a reading corner which you can create on one side of the sofa or armchair. 2/ art, 3/ rug and 4/ coffee table (if you have a space for it). These 3 or 4 will be the game-changers. What you have to remember is that the existing pieces you won't be removing don't necessarily shout contemporary but you can achieve a contemporary feel through the smaller things - the details. I would research the products, if I were you, including art, rug, cushions, lighting and put a plan together. That way you could see how the space would look. In terms of the coffee table and materials, calacatta marble, white polished surfaces and finishes on furniture, metals such as nickel or gold (e.g. for picture frames, trims etc.) would be my first options to look at. Eliminate the rest, unless you can't find anything. Hope this helps....See MoreSeeking inspiration for contemporary lounge revamp.
Comments (13)We have an external chimney so flat wall inside, we just painted using masking tape to create a feature - we get lots of comments on how nice it looks. It is clearly the feature, not the tv. Maybe add a bookcase on one side? Re fire, I would just replace the actual surround with something new and modern, we saw lots of nice stone options when we were looking, then reinstate open fire (not a clue how easy/ costly this is!)...See MorePlease help me make my lounge a contemporary space
Comments (6)I'm at the end of renovating a whole house and if you're anything at all like me you are probably skint by now! And like you I'm running low on ideas too. Looking at your room I might be tempted to temporarily finish it off by not spending too much money and have it ready for Christmas telly lounging! Then maybe next year (or later ) when you're up for it finish off however you're inspired. So I'd put Ikea shelves above the TVs and paint all of it dark. Having said that I've got loads of books and they always make rooms look good! I'd also keep the fire for now and put book shelves low down the wall and put plenty of artwork above....See MoreAmanda
