Clarify pantry size?

Hello! A previous question about pantry size was asked, but I'm not sure I understand your response. Would you be so kind as to offer the dimensions (Length x Width), as well as the depth of the shelves? Thank you for your help! :-)

Dear Quentin or Ruth,

The length is 3125 and the width is 2356 with 400mm deep shelves on one side and 600mm deep on the other side. Thanks Alison

Your renovation looks like it is going very well, don't get discouraged. I think before you change the pantry cupboard, it would be worthwhile you and your partner mocking up the eating area and the kitchen island unit to get an idea of where you're going. Re the island, I think an island unit which runs to the end of the pantry cupboard will add more weight and bulk to the space and anchor the pantry. It could be a working bench at the far end and an eat-on area at the closer end. This will give you space to 'land' items you are pulling out of the pantry If you mocked this up with some boxes and sheets, and then also added some large "pictures" taped to the walls, left and right of the pantry, I think it would give you a much better idea of the finished space. Re the art size, possibly pieces that relate to the pantry cupboard height on the left side of it and two pieces either side of the range hood that relate to the lower level upper cabinets at the far end .

I see you went for the solid door :-) It looks like you couldn't use the toaster there as the shelf above is low. I keep my toaster in a drawer and have a microwave and coffee machine where your toaster is.

What frustrates you when trying to organise Kitchen cupboards/Pantry?

Soft packets ie bags of rice, pasta, lentils are the worst. I could decant them into containers but I don’t like the idea of mixing new and old, and if I wait till the old is finished, I have the next packet to store as well as the container, double the space needed. So, I just use the packets but of course once opened they tend to spill and be awkward shapes. I would value a container where you could somehow divide old and new (with a partition perhaps)? Mugs, main issue is the water that collects in the dip in the base when they are upside down in the dishwasher. When the dishwasher ends I have to turn them to empty out the water, wait for them to drip dry and then put them in the cupboard to avoid puddles in the cupboard. Also, ours stack but not all do, stackable is definitely better! Cereal boxes the giant ones are a pain to store and I don’t buy them as a result. Tall thin bottles ditto. Of course environmental concerns over any plastic packaging - for example could cereal not use waxed paper for the internal bag rather than plastic. Herbs and spices, please put the name on the top as well as the side for those of us who store them in drawers. And preferably the use by date as well!
