Which green or grey/green for kitchen cabinets?

I saw a lovely kitchen pic online and it said fired earth oak apple was near the cabinet colour but now i have the chart i think that that will be too dark for the grey daytimes in our West facing internal kitchen - only light in comes from patio doors 9m from back kitchen wall.

So i'm looking for suggestions in addition to these colours:-

Fired Earth - China Clay, Alabaster and Lime White

Little Greene - Acorn and Tracery II

F&B - Green Ground, Ball Green or Bone

If anyones used these colours would love to see pics of how it works. The plan is to combine with light worktop - maybe polished Silestone lagoon and antique brass like this http://www.tapwell.se/sv/köksblandare/evo/evo-180?surface=Grottesco

Hello Charlie_bill,

It may be that the names don't mean much and people need to see the paint.. It might also be good to see the room.. That way people can get a feel of what's happening in the room... but I'd suggest going for something that has a warm tone in a dark room that doesn't get a lot of light.. I also think possibly a pinkish tint rather than green -which might further enhance the "cool" Let me see if I can put some colours together.

Dimity, Slipper Satin and Wevet F&B (these are plastery colours and tend to feel slightly warmer than greenish or stoney tints.. They may work to warm the room up... Then think textures... Honed light marble coloured granite with an up stand would be lovely and then consider a lovely flooring.. Polished surfaces are great when light is a minimum but I suggest Honed simply because it's a far more tasteful finish at least in my eyes..

A light limestone could be lovely for the flooring or my current favourite herringbone or chevron parquet with some equally fantastic light colours here.... Textures will lift and make the room warm and inviting as will your accessories.. : ))

I used the pale version of slaked lime (which makes a great substitute for white in a bright room) but the darker one may suit better. Also, it looks beautiful with wood flooring. Portland stone also is lovely but with a more olivey tone.

Not sure what Norikei was trying to say but to clarify my point: A light colour wall could make this olive colour look very fresh, less olive and in this context might look less expensive. This olive colour against darker coloured walls or teamed with rich coloured wood in my opinion makes for a more expensive look.

Problem with borrowed photos is it can distort the colour. Phones can distort colour too. I have Cromarty in my living room and the colour changes with the light and the weather. To be honest it looks much like your colour. This picture was taken early evening.

Thanks Amber. This morning is a perfect dull day here! This is the space, obviously will be filled with kitchen units! Oh no, not green

Hello Charlie_bill,

Welcome, Well I looked at the colours you mention and they have a green hint to them (not the white ones) from what I can see and so I would probably go with a pinky tint which has a warm hue to it.. Looking at the room, one thing I would suggest is bring the door into the colour scheme.. That way the eye is not drawn to the corner of the room...

The colours I picked out are not unlike what you have and you can work with the colours to layer a palette I'd usually say 2 or 3 colours and or layers of one colour for walls, wood work and then you can choose something complimentary for the cabinets..

You could have some angled task wall lighting which would further enhance any work space or areas you'd like to draw attention to and thus negates the need for any ceiling option, which you don't currently have..

Of course I can visualise the kitchen units and I think you will make the space work for you. : ))

going to definitely need to see these colours against the worktop (which also is not fully decided on - long list of 5 so far!) - my brain is doing a white on white type response - similar to they way i see double denim :)) I think i like Slipper Satin the best so far when placing the chart in the corner of the room. Heading off to Gloucester i next few weeks to look at Silestone slabs so i've got a long list!

oh iswym re the door, yes i agree, i have some pinned - already had that in mind - no idea what we are doing on that wall other than adding another door a couple m's to the left of the current one for the new utility room. The whole house is blank canvas since moving in 6 months ago. Taking all my patience to do it slowly and properly!

Nothing wrong with that approach at all... Also if you're thinking of the whole house it may be nice to keep things cohesive by decorating it with a theme in mind rather than looking at the rooms separately... best thing to do is get some samples on the go... Worktop samples, paint colours onto paper and stick then round the room and look throughout the changing light to see what works.. Also consider artificial light too for the evenings! Well there's nothing wrong with layers of the same colour.. by that I mean shades on a theme.. So it's not all just one colour.. Enjoy the process..

I've had farrow and ball bone in a kitchen and it's really lovely but does change in different lights
Sometimes it looks a definate soft green others more toned down
I think the key is putting a lighter colour with it brings the green out more

Thanks all - paint amp shopping tomorrow i think! ;) Also i was thinking of wood floor (I love the really pale Dinesen look) but excuse me if this is a stupid question - how do you keep wood clean in a kitchen - surely you can't mop it?

Hello charlie_bill,

Yes you should be able to mop a wooden floor... I do mine all be it it's painted but you can wax the floor for protection and you should be fine... Have a think about Parquet.. Herringbone or Chevron designs offer lovely textures here... Or even if you have plain boards a wax would be my preferred method of protecting the wood if you don't like the idea of painted flooring.. Low sheen wax also rather than a gloss varnish.. : ))

yay - thanks Amber [blush at my ignorance] - i think you've posted me some herringbone/chevron samples before, that would certainly add some character in to a white/off white neutrals room. I'll have a look back at my posts.

ok so I'm still al little confused but almost decided (mainly cos i can't take this strange indecision anymore!) So 3 tall integrated of/larger fridge & pull out larder units on back wall (in photo) and l shape base units only in Slipper Satin. Worktop in snowy ibiza as it has a taupe tinge to it so works well with Slipper Satin but lighten the room too and wimborne white (or possibly Valspar Fluffy Robe) for the walls and open shelves. I still want my champagne bronze tap and am hoping it will go but it's the only thing I'm not certain on now and the only thing i'm dead set on having! Off to look at Kahrs flooring samples today.
