Have I made the wrong decision?
Comments (57)Looks like an old thread but l'd like to comment anyway. Leave it as is. This is a great Mediterranean look. The grout is fine - a white grout would look rather blank here, and l'm so glad the mirror is simple and you placed it on a simple wood backing. The concrete basin stand adds an understated industrial touch whilst the style of the porcelain fittings is perfectly timeless and l like taps too. The shower sure does need a glass screen to keep water from raining all over the place! You could make the blue pop out further by using a combination of grey and two blues in your towels. Well done for this brave success!...See MoreIs it ok not to have splashback in cloakroom?
Comments (31)I never, or should I say my husband, hasn't, got round to finish tiling behind the wash basin so we used a 'washable wallpaper' and it drives me mad everyday. It never ceases to surprise me how much toothpaste, soap etc gets splashed against the wall and no matter how much I wipe it, it always leaves little marks which are impossible to get off without damaging the surface. If I could, I would tile every last inch of the bathroom. A quick spray and wipe and it always looks clean. I feel like I'm doing an indepth scrub constantly and it still never looks quite as pristine as I would like...See MoreHave you tried the KonMari Method?
Comments (24)I am an avid de-clutterer & I admit I am always decluttering something. I personally love to live minimally, in reality we still need to have things on hand that we use. I am very restrictive with what comes in my space, I don't have nick knacks and things around and everything has its place. At the end of a day everything is back in its place yet I cant say I empty my handbag into a cloth bag ( well I have no handbag so that would be a tricky one ). Gosh I already get up at 5am I am sure if I read the book I would need to adjust that to 4.30 !!! That may be extreme in an already full life. The most `full` space is of course my office, I would love to only have minimal in this space however that just would not work. Mind you I declutter this space regularly. I love the feeling of getting rid of things whatever they may be. It is a great feeling. I loved reading every ones comments .... many funny comments made me laugh out load....See MoreTell us: Do you have any home renovation regrets?
Comments (32)Whilst I recognise there's a few tradespeople on here bemoaning fussy clients I have to say my biggest regrets when renovating my house was not being specific enough with trades! We had an electrician put in an extra light switch in the hall to control both the downstairs and upstairs lighting. He put it in a good 10-15cm lower than the other switch further along the same wall which looked completely ridiculous. Made him move it in line with the other one much to his annoyance. Another similar incident was with a vertical column rad for the kitchen - whilst I was specific enough this time to ask it be centered to the wall it was on, he installed it much higher than needed with about 30cm of pipe sticking out the bottom! It would have looked much better in line with the doorframe adjacent. Had to learn to live with that one. We had engineered wood floors put in upstairs - the fitter used the shortest wall in the smallest room to take a plumbline from. When it came into the hall it was obviously on a complete wonk. By this point I'd gotten a bit better at speaking up and ensuring we actually got what was needed (and paid for!). He had to take it up and re-lay using the hall as the plumbline. Looked so much better but he was extremely annoyed! After all this I learned to use masking tape to direct exactly where pipes/light switches/trim should be fitted so there was no room for 'interpretation'. I also forced myself to speak up more and advocate for what I really wanted. That said I'm a designer by trade so I generally know what I want and how to make it look good but was definitely a bit too shy to contradict trades in the beginning!...See MoreHenrietta Butchart
