Ideas for dealing with Planning Condition on Obscure Glazed Windows
Comments (13)Hi Cynthia 1. agreed ... although I would just raise the small concern that this will be a large master bedroom which we hope will be impressive and attractive on any future sale. Therefore we would like to avoid as far as possible, anything which makes one end of the room look a bit unusual (i.e. one obscured window not matching other clear windows). I am hoping we can come up with some internal (or possibly even external) design idea to mitigate the actual difference in window glass. One idea has been to use folding plantation shutters for example and to have the top 1/3 of windows (above the 1.7m threshold) as openable. However given the windows are dormer, the top 1/3 has the sloping roof, so cannot fit in plantation shutters around the top 1/3. 2. agreed again ... but again for future use by other occupants, it may seem strange to have a room with only obscured glass (or at least the main window pane up to 1.7m). Wondering if there are any design ideas which can make it look more like a normal room even though 3/4 of the window pane will be obscured. 3. that could be possible, I was thinking it would be a problem since the size matched (as usually I've seen the staircase window when stained glass being of a totally independent size and shape and therefore one does not even expect it to match, as it is unique in every way). However, here it is not only the same size and shape but also part of a horizontal row of windows, so I would think maybe the eye would expect matching styles across the plane? Would love to see a photo of exterior of a house where one of the windows in a row of similar sized windows is stained, if anyone can share? 4. The last window will continue to have regular glass as is it part of existing (pre-renovation) house and in any case (although difficult to see from drawing) set back from the 3 new windows by about 2m (you can see a flat roof in front of it). Therefore less of a need to imagine it would match as it is on a slightly different plane to the other three. Will definitely consider Solatubes for the study room ... hoping this is not another planning authority approval issue!...See Morestained glass pattern for front door??? help
Comments (12)Hi miss. To put just right and the best solution for your entrance is very important and we can say dificould to. There is many important facts you should think about ( architecture situacion, your taste and wishes, investition, how strong is the day light etc.) You have two posibilities, chouse and make artistic stained glass before paonting the interior to chouse color of wall on stained glass or second which is more dificould and left to designer of glass less space is to make the project for already colored ambient. If its important for you is great to think input the glasses in triplex glass sistem (stained glass is in the midle of two glasses) to protect them, easy cleaning and get a good U thermo index. You can use one of two diferent technics of stained glass (leaded or "Tiffany"). Leaded glass is very old technic of producing windo glasses and traditionaly used for victorial style. The star of Art Noveu is Tiffay technic. But for the doors and ambient we more prefer artistic glasses in "Tiffany" becouse it is much more strong and delicat look from near position. Special in arabic countries is very popular rich victorian mansions with new "tiffany" stained glasses inside. Any way its my opinion and recomendation to use interior designer or master artist for design of stained glass art to make your project just perfect and you will lather nor regret where you invested the money. I can say you the price for autor unique slech will be from 50EUR. In my studio we normaly offer three diferent skeches which using all information we have (architecture situacion, your wishes and investition fond) to make your wishes come thrue. In case if you will have trubles you just contact me and I can help you with it with pleasure! Kindness regards, Franci Sigmund, owner and CEO of EF ART STUDIO for design and stained glass art....See MoreHelp with Victorian door lintel...
Comments (4)I have been there recently and feel your pain! I am restoring a period property on a shoe string and have had to learn how to replicate mouldings all over the place. It takes a lot of patience and a bit of time but you can do it yourself for about £40 plus a few pounds for adhesive if you have the inclination. I would first use an angle grinder to make the damaged surface flat, then carefully remove a couple of the teeth on the other window lintel (bit scary I know) and make a mould by putting them in a flat bottomed dish and pouring two part silicone around it. You can buy this online for about £20. Take the teeth out when it has set and then you can make as may of them as you like. (I watched a few youtube videos first) I use a plaster called Calcite R which you just mix with water and pour into the mould. In a couple of hours you can take them out and when dry, stick them up there with a good quality exterior adhesive. Fill over the joins with flexible exterior filler and paint with a waterproof paint. You can buy a paint on liquid mould too so that you don't have to remove the teeth, but I can't say much about it as I haven't used it. I have only done this for interior mouldings but apparently the plaster I use is suitable for exterior use if painted - there might be a better product out there. It is really easy to do. This is a photo of my ceiling rose which was really badly water damaged. Half of the leaves are original and half of them are new castings that I made in the dish I used to serve the peas in for Sunday lunch. It is a bit time consuming but has saved us a fortune....See MoreHelp with Windows and Front Door needed
Comments (29)Hi Minnie thank you for the help darling, yes we will mirror the right side porch brick column then split the as rest sidelights. Nice and centered for my symmetry obsessed brain. I think I know what you mean about the horizontal bars, especially as they would have to work with the panels in the doors and I can't really see how that would work. I am still fighting with the idea of plain glass though, not sure how I could get to see some modern clear glass leaded panels?? I have this strong gut feeling that adding a bit of detail to the panels will make the whole entrance feel nicer. Colour wise I think would rather have a little contrast especially as we have the garage door as well, but I'm not feeling the stronger colours. I am considering light blue from farrow and ball, too safe????...See Morepannacotta
