pendant shades in living room

hi I'm thinking of a henningsen pH 4/3 or similar pendant in the living room area. do you think these pendant are best suited to the dining area though?

I think they're lovely! They are especially suited to a dining area or over an island, as they look at their best when hanging low at head height over a table etc. My daughter has a similar one in her lounge, but it's not a height adjustable one, it's fine for her at only 5'8", but when we visit we have to walk around it or you'd bang your head on it every five minutes. If you put them at a suitable height for a lounge area so that you can walk under them safely then you will see less of the sides and top of the light.

thank you! I currently have a plain white cotton tubular lampshade from IKEA. I have a small apartment, and tjr shade is near one end of the room, so risk of banging is low, despite ceilings being lower than average. I guess hang height would be similar to my current shade.
my main concern was if this pendant was specifically suited to a dining room and if it would look out of place otherwise, almost feel 'cold' or 'clinical' to a shade?
it's quite expensive so I'd buy it and take it and want to use it forever, so bit of an investment.

You will have to bite your tongues when you see my light fitting then, ha ha ha ;0) @forzaitalia & Patrina - I’ve seen those bulbs in b&q as well and some are lovely. I imagine you can get lower wattage ones just like standard bulbs as well for that style which would be less blinding. I don’t have a problem with them though and find them quite atmospheric. Alternatively, if you like that effect, go for the bulb with some mesh shade so it’s even more filtered?

It really depends on how high your ceilings are and the type of look you are going for. Will they make a statement or are they purely functional? I'd usually go for pendants with fixed shades because I'm usually committing to a style and I've chosen something I truly love. However, you can get some beautiful glass shades from places like made.com . Of course, one would always agree with Minnie. Only other option for a ceiling fixed pendant would be to get an electrician in to feed a cable to the corner. It may be possible to do this easily from above and not mean damaging your ceiling, depending on your flooring. Alternatively you could get a large, arced lamp to hold a large shade, but that’s not really the same look.

Personally I would prefer to use this light over a table as it is such a beautiful focus, especially love the first image where they've used three...fab! I'm not sure that they would pack such a punch as a pendant in the living room area unless you can hang them quite low so as to appreciate the design. Of course if you are in a position to hang it where it can be appreciated quite readily and you will use it rather than lighting lamps around the room why not go for it!

I think it would look great in a living room.
If you can hang it above a coffee table you can still hang it nice and low.

I think they are perfect for a dining area. They can create a cosy environment. I would add table lights to other areas of the living room to keep the space harmonious. Please do not forget a central light there might be moment you will need to light up all living room not just one area

Hello!

This is a really stylish pendant light and could look great in a living room but please bear in mind the type of light you will get from it.

Firstly, it will cast a pool of light straight down which, on its own, is neither flattering to the room nor the people in it. Accompanied with accent lighting such as wall lights or lamps, it could work.

Secondly, unlike your cotton shade, the bulb will be more exposed and therefore not ideal if above a sitting area. Try a pearlised or decorative bulb at a lower wattage to avoid glare.
