What do you think I should do about this old dresser?
Comments (25)wow stellahome, what a grand house and entrance! I'm intrigued! Do you have many original features left in the house? servant bells maybe? :) Post some pictures for us! I am very familiar with lassco, in fact I currently live 5 mins away from there, and pop in often, they have many wonderful items which really enhance an old house. Took a couple of more pictures today of the dresser, as even though it looks very worn, look at the dovetail joint details! They certainly don't make them like this anymore (unless you pay a hefty price for it!)...See MoreWhat colour to paint kitchen?
Comments (16)Beware of dark colours on a dark floor. We wanted a dark colour so chose a light floor - and it works, just. If I'm honest, I think it is a bit too dark, but it does look good and my wife loves it. It is F&B Mouse's Back. It also works because the kitchen is big and well lit - dark cabinets may make a galley kitchen feel a bit like a corridor i.e. oppressive. I quite like the light wood, but if painting, I'd go bright for your layout....See MorePaint or stain dresser?
Comments (8)In that case I agree and go with a stained top but definitely paint the underneath. You could try a coloured wax which I think will be the best match for the table. There’s a few brands but this one has many good reviews: https://www.wood-finishes-direct.com/product/fiddes-wax Just remember that with wax the more layers you apply the deeper the tone in colour but nicer sheen. Whichever way you do it the cabinet will need sanding first for best results. Good luck and keep us updated. Don’t hesitate if you have more questions, myself and other houzzers will likely chip in:-)...See MoreWhat colour to paint dresser?
Comments (20)There’s so many ways and colours to paint furniture that it can be mind boggling:)...Painted a few myself so know how tough it can be, same as what colour to paint a room:)). So here’s my thoughts... I agree with Sonia and think the cinder rose pink all over would be too garish but if it was just the back panel behind the shelves it would look great. In this case I would keep the dresser white and the back panel could be any bright colour you like. Removing the curly trim and changing the handles to match those of the kitchen would certainly help to modernize it and blend in but not totally necessary. Another thought is to add a contrasting trim with the aid of masking tape around the edges, a bit like contrasting piping on upholstery, so for eg. If you painted the cabinet yellow you could pick up the edges with the pink. Hard to find an example but found and image that uses orange and pink. My choice would be to keep white but with yellow trim then bring one of the yellow chairs back for next to the fire....See MoreUser
