Need help with the dining area in my kitchen
Comments (44)What a beautiful and perfect table you found! Hubba hubba - those legs are just gorgeous. Well done and thanks for calling out to me. As for the chair mix, I think four beige and two merlot would be lovely. I think you like a traditional look, so I'm a bit worried that you won't be happy with it. If the table will normally be smaller with four beige chairs around it and maybe put the two merlot ones on either side of the radiator cover/"console", then definitely do the mix. Mismatched chairs around a dining table are often all different or the same make and model in a multitude of colours or the same colour in different styles. Do a Houzz search and see if you can find your planned mix and if you like the look. If in doubt, get four beige and look at them for a while! You could tie the two chair colours together with little cushions on the chairs - maybe just on the two merlot ones. Both of these are too big, I think, but the colours are good. http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/reasonhome/product/pondicherry-flower-silk-cushion-cover http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/emmalonsdale/product/chit-chat-rectangular-cushion This one might be the right size: http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/jennysibthorp/product/lobster-pot-screen-printed-natural-linen-cushion I covet the table already so I can't wait to see him all polished up.......See MoreOur new kitchen
Comments (27)Ah! thanks Jonathan!! I will have another look at the cabinet.. I think if we decide to make the island bigger we might have to add an extra cabinet.. need to check with my kitchen designer as don't remember now if it would be on both sides... had it all drawn out on the floor the other night.. and the island does seem a bit too big if I integrate the pillar.. and might be a bit on the way of the entrance and my sofa that I plan to have in the middle of that part of the room for watching TV.. I think I will try to push my kitchen guy to do it flash with the island.. which would safe 10 cm and would be on the same level with the back door. For some reason he says it will be practically impossible to have it perfectly flash while keeping the waterfall feature..///??? ahhh...See MoreMy new kitchen
Comments (27)Hi Lynda, It's a shame that you don't love your kitchen, but I can see why. It doesn't mesh together. You've combined stark, modern black and white gloss units with a more rustic brown/grey slate effect floor. The walls are broken up by boxy units, a green wall and a wall papered in a small black and white design. First, despite the expense, I'd change the floor to a light oak to go with the eating area. Remove the wallpaper and introduce something large, round and inclusive of some green. Perhaps a large clock like this one from Vintage Watches Newgate Cookhouse Wall Clock Kettle Green - COOK343KG may interest you. http://www.watchandjewellery.co.uk/featured-clocks/newgate-coookhouse-wall-clock.html. Finally, hang a pendant light in green over the eating area. Try https://www.estoreuk.com/aerial-pendant-light-e27-edison-screw-60-watt-yellow-red-lime-green-purple-new in green. If you don't want all green touches to your kitchen, introduce a combination of green, lime green and yellow through your wine rack, canisters and textiles....See MoreHelp to update my 1990s beech shaker style kitchen
Comments (8)Thanks for all the advice, unfortunately wall unit doors are too small. Worse of all is that 6 months ago we cleared out the garage and got rid of various side panels which may have worked. Oh well!!! doors are beech, back in late 1990s this was a very popular colour and my kitchen fitter is trying to see if he can find them. He did not think staining would work and I would hate the doors being a slightly different colour worse than the applicances showing. may consider the idea of different colour doors along the bottom...See MoreOTM Designs & Remodeling Inc.
