New bathroom

This project is now entering its 6 month of design! Me & the other half just can't decide on wall tiles. A shower is being put in the corner where the fireplace is, the door you see in the 1st photo will be blocked up (we have another entrance facing the toilet) & the fireplace moved elsewhere. The bath will be put along the wall under the window to open the room up. With 2 windows it's a very light room so we shall paint the window wall with a darker blue-grey and a lighter grey on the opposite wall. We would like your advice on what style and colour tiles to use in the shower corner, it's driving us crazy! I'd like something practical as in less grout meaning less mould for me to clean and J is more for aesthetics! Please help!!

we used a combination of tadelakt and teak in this bathroom and it looks great!

Hi

What a great space and you're lucky to have a lot of light.

I would be inclined to keep the tiles light and also larger rather than smaller. You could also go for polished which will help to reflect the light even more.

Hi,

Large format tiles will mean less tricky grouting and a light tile will of course reflect light and make the space feel more open.

One important piece of information required is what kind of shower are you having installed and how would you like it to fit in within the bathroom as a whole - do you want it to be a distinctly different space breaking up the room or do you wish to integrate it with the rest of the bathroom?

If space is your priority, perhaps the second toilet would be better? What brand is it, btw? I will eventually be redoing a bathroom (had planned to do it this year, but gas price rises have made me decide to install a wood burner instead). Really like the shape of this second toilet and it looks like it would be so easy to clean.

I like the blue - and for me, I think I would prefer to replace the border tiles with the same. However I appreciate it can be really tricky to find the exact tile! As an latter native I would consider maybe using a wood effect slatted style tile like these - and I would also get the tiler to tile the bath panel and the boxing in around the sink.

If you want to avoid grout, google tadelakt. It's very beautiful. Alternatively, you could make the shower dissapear in the space entirely if you have a bespoke glass screen with no frame and buy porcelain wood effect tiles similar to the real wood you have now. Fired Earth do good one. Less grout there as well as big tiles. Make sure you use an appropriate coloured grout, probably dark to match the colour of the gap in your floorboards.

If you don't want to have the hassle of grout, then why not consider glass? We've used it in one of our houses, you can have a whole gammut of colour choices, so easy to keep clean!

Use Aqua board or shower board , just one large sheet normally 8x4 these can be used either click or jointing strip no grout no mould easy clean and lots of designs that would suit existing or brighten it up with a twist and add a sparkle .
I no my bathroom is totally different but this gives you an idea

Alternatively try Lustrolite acrylic wall panels, they are available in 9 colours and are extremely easy to cut to size & install

read up on general design,you have told us the property is georgian,so decide

are you staying on trend or pick your period,the bath should be free standing with pipes hidden under floor boards,as to the color ,have you tried color pots.

if all else try an architect.

Have a look at Nuance shower panels by Bushboard. They are waterproof through the panels, not just the surface. There is a range of stone effects that would look good in an Edwardian property. Have them installed by a professional to there are no leaks.

I am a tiler and I used all kind of tiles and mosaics.

Best advice ,as your corner shower will be around 800/800mm ,get porcelain tiles . In London,European Heritage sells porcelain with carrara marble print (white and greish veins gloss shiny finish or other color options) at 795/795mm. That would mean about 3 tiles per wall. around 240 the whole set of tiles with only 2 horizontal grout lines. For best results,use Mapei grout(you can find it even at B&Q nowdays.

Add black matt finish taps and mixers and you have a relaxing colour mix.
