Could you perhaps share the details of the contractor applying the Tadelakt plaster? I have a client that would like to use it throughout the house and am looking for the specialist. Could you recommend? Were you happy with the work overall? Many thanks.

hi, I agree that turning the kitchen into ensuite bedroom is a smart move, as the current layout means that you have to walk from the kitchen (with the meals) through the bathroom? Or maybe there's another access, but still open plan kitchen / sitting / dining room would work better. They often say, when buying furniture for a small space, choose the ones with built in storage (bed base with sliding drawers, puffs that open up, built in wardrobes if possible, etc.). Also when choosing tables, don't go for chunky pieces, but buy the glass ones, with thin legs, so they create the effect of bigger space. fix few mirros on the walls? Maybe large wall to floor mirror in one place (if you can stand them!). Plenty of shelving, tall, but slim units would work best. Also have you got a loft in the house? you can keep some of the stuff there. Last port of call is always just to rent a storage unit (you can find surprisingly cheap ones these days), and store the stuff you don't use every day. Lovely house and location btw!

Yes I was going to say either contemporary with a dark (charcoal) grey or go soft and connect it with the environment/landscape around it - almost like camouflage.. so a pale green for the trees or go for a pale blue or lighter grey connecting to the sky.

I’m guessing that you’re after advice on alternative lighting if the natural daylight source is restricting. I’ve worked in a few studios and the best ones tend to have lots of angled roof windows north facing but diffused so the natural daylight was evenly spread and with the addition of fluorescent tube lights (the type you get in garages) for dark times of year. All depends on what type of creative work you’re doing as well. There are plenty of artificial light sources for specific tasks but choosing the right kind of light can be tricky, this might explain more: https://willkempartschool.com/art-studio-lighting-design/ When I used to hand mix colour dyes I had to compare samples in different lights but outside the back door (north light but in shadow) was better for truer colour match.

Hello Looby_Liz I agreed with rinked keep the storage. My first flat was a studio and it was always storage the problem. I do not know how the storage is used but you can have a pull out desk from it. A storage wall keeping the bedroom private to the rest of the flat. Storage shelves wardrobe on the bedroom side could be made or hacked but so that the hangers are flat to the wall, so minimising space. Like you see in shops, but better. On the opposite side in your living area you can have some clever storage for your desk., dinning area. Have a look at Quantum Tech HD https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkEMzxxnKUQ some amazing ideas. Approx 3mins 40sec in, is a great idea for a desk/dressing table. But the whole video will give you some ideas. I do not know where they are based? But there must be other companies too? And if you are a DIY-ist or know someone who is, some look like modern ikea style and they may have the desk, table, bed fixings to create similar. Have a look at modern Japanese interiors to get some clever ideas too. In feng shui you would not have your bedroom door opposite the bathroom. So needs a door to keep private if not there already. Keeping things off the floor helps stops the room from feeling enclosed. But clever storage that conceals for eg. an ottoman to under bed storage beds, (the designs have much improved since my day). Steps can be storage. And your door to the bedroom could be disguised too as a continuation of your shelving. Lighting and flooring can zone your areas and create different moods. As it is a small space that has to do everything in your life. Possibly "live" with it for awhile with the things to see how it feels, where the light changes during the day and night. The colour changes. See where you walk how the kitchen works and then with your research you will know where to place or rearrange your personal things. And don't forget plants and pictures with the lighting. Have fun.
