White laminate floor

we are going with the above tile, its brighter in real life.

The main areas will be done in this, but there are a few rooms that won't be used that often, and we want to cut costs and are going to put a decent laminate in these rooms. I want the whole downstairs area to flow so I don't want to change the colour scheme.

What's the thoughts on white/light grey laminate?

Fine in less used rooms - avoid in high traffic areas !
If you find you start to get echoes - add more soft furnishings and a rug !

I think it depends on your activity in that room and how much time and resources you can dedicate to maintainance .

I've always wanted white floors but only in my fantasy. Any little dirt will be obvious and would need to be cleaned regularly. This is okay if you can afford it i.e having a cleaner. However, if you have kids I would think thrice!

I think light grey is a nice cheat to have light floors but less work than white.
Grey can work with the same colours as white which is fabulous.

Light coloured floors are luxurious and I love them!

Hi Jason, I like your creativity and I can see why the white melamine doors might appeal. I haven't used these specifically but have used high gloss painted solid timber doors and they were beautiful. These do have a timber effect on the edge which I would want to see at least photos of and I would consider the surface finish as a matt mottled door might be a little underwhelming in a gorgeous timber filled space. Melamine does last, but again so does timber. Timber when chipped can be fixed, melamine, not so easily. Also because there are no panels and the surface is very regular, you might notice scratches more than a 5 panel door or one with some kind of features in it (on white melamine scratches usually look darker). Plastic is heavy and so you will get a heavier feeling door, although a thicker door with well fitted hinges and handles will also give you a more solid feel. Also the sound quality coming from a melamine door will be different to a timber door (I am not bias from one to the other, I am just thinking of the things I would consider when thinking about the whole end result). Many of the developers I work with use Premdor, so the company is solid. To answer your question, I would always call them up and ask for samples of the melamine finish in a few different shades and gloss, matt and mottled. Then I would be confident with my decision. When guessing is involved you are relying on luck and that rarely goes too well. Doors are expensive, you want to love them when they arrive not hope for the best. In terms of being a pain to fit, I would ask for predrilled holes, but you will need to know your hardware and ironmongery or speak to your chippy first before ordering and see how much experience he has with it, as he has a very small margin of error! For me, personal preference is the grey but I don't think it will work well with the cream walls. Think I'd go for a shade of white on the walls and liven it up a little with colour in soft furnishings.

Oh another you were worried about breakfast bar behind hob. We have separate dining room so this is really for simple breakfast and lunch. My family won't eat while I am cooking as I make dinner and then ask them to come. I am just thinking that I don't have much prep space between sink and hob. May be this is what you were worried about.... Errrr awkward sized Kitchen. Need wow!!! also need practicality?????
