Hi,

From my experience I would say this is a genuine antique fireplace and dates to the turn of the century, circa 1890-1900. Therefore to find an identical piece will take some time searching and a lot of luck :o/ . Obviously at some point recently its been removed and polished or bought from a dealer and fitted in this location with new hearth tiles. I have dozens of original cast iron fireplaces such as this in stock ( not the identical one I'm afraid!) so if you are looking for a reclaimed antique fireplace please drop me a message or visit my website www.nostalgia-uk.com.

We've got the same problem all through our house, between the fireplace, radiator, door and window - there's no ideal place for the bed in any room. Fully appreciate your challenge, but strongly urge you not to damage an original fireplace. Fashions change ... We popped a board in front of the fireplace in our main bedroom to stop draughts, then put the bed in front of it as you appear to have done. It worked for us.

Lovely fireplace - but I think that the reason it seems out of kilter is the difference in size between the fire and the chimney. How about making the chimney breast the same width as the fireplace by simple boarding, and then make a feature out of this beautiful fire by painting the whole of the fire and the chimney in a bold colour. If you have another colour in the room to pick up this colour, use that - otherwise try plum colour, and co-ordinate with same colour cushions to add to your blue chair/settee. I also think there are too many small bits and bobs on the hearth and the shelf. Clear most of these and use one large, tall statement piece one side on the hearth - say a very tall silver vase or tall silver ornament. At the moment all the things you have are the same colour, and I feel that it needs more texture and height, but keep it simple. Hope this is of help.

In the right setting, a one-off feature item in a gold colour, such as a marble fireplace looks stunning! Or for a more subtle look, why not have a bespoke made table top or vanity top in a pale marble with gold coloured veining such as the Calacatta Oro? Let us know what you think! Helen

Yes very happy i went for bold. l feel like the hearth needs balancing out on the other side with the log basket but wasnt sure what....as it would have to be non-combustible ideally!!! or would it look too busy with something else anyway?
