Aesthetics v Energy Efficiency when replacing timber Sash windows

Our clients have purchased a
substantial country house in Winchester with a view to carry out a complete
renovation project by our sister company.

They shall be replacing the
existing windows with our box sash timber windows but are unsure as to whether
to opt for:

  1. single glazed timber sash, or

  2. double glazed slimline conservation sash windows to improve
    energy efficiency.

Note, our slimline double glazed
units can be reduced down to 12mm total thickness, compared to the standard
24mm thickness. We also use Krypton Gas infill over the standard Argon to
improve energy efficiency as Krypton is a heavier gas.

The additional cost to upgrade to
slimline conservation is around 14-18% (£300-400) per window for these very
large sized windows. Therefore, the cost difference is not substantially different.

Given these two options which would
you prefer if this was to be your new home?
