Need help for this Table/Chairs

This is an extending dark oak, french polished table and chairs. I don't like the tapestry covers, I don't like the dark oak french polish which is patchy anyway from water.

What would you do? I like light oak but am at a loss to know what to do with this.

Sell it? Give it away? Scared at the thought of painting it.

Hi Wendy, I've studied and completed furniture restoration and upholstery projects and this is a pretty big job. You could strip and sand the whole table back but it would take time, and you'd need to strip the chairs too if you want them to match, and then the-upholster them. If this is your first project of this type it's quite a lot to take on. But it would be a terrible shame to paint them as they're lovely old pieces that someone will like and/or be prepared to work on themselves. If they're not to your taste I would stick them on eBay and find something else you like or would be easier to restore.

Thanks Amelia, I thought that may be the case. It was my Mum's table so there is a tie there but it may well be better for it to go x

Thanks minnie101. Yes I do like the renovation ☺️. Now I'm working on the decorations.. I do plan to add an AJ floor lamp. It would be great to pull out the sofa a little bit.. May be only a few inches is allowed ,..and place the floor lamp between the window n the sofa near the wall.. If it's too packed, the lamp can be on the left hand side right at the place where the door opens to.. I also plan to hang some pictures on the white wall above the sofa.. May be 2 or 3 pics like that in the sample pics 2, 3 & 4. But I'm very slow on this... hesitating on the styles of the pictures i should choose... May be some geometric black white grey pics with a hint of pink.. And some pics with quotes.. I hope to keep the place look simple and minimal.. A friend of mine said I don't need to add any pic if I want a minimalist design. As for the wall of the living room, there's an irregular clock. I tried to put more numbers scattered over the space but it felt too much and made the place look less spacious,... So finally I took some away and now only no. 1,4,8,9 left. What do u think? I will also add some greenery on the shelves and tables like small pots and plants, cactus, etc. Appreciate any comments & advice.

I really like that last one, even though it has a glass top, but... no corners. Think it will look lovely in your kitchen. Anyway... choices, choices :-) And I like the bench idea too, but would add a round table and two chairs to that.

Dear all We have purchased these 6 dining chairs for our new home. The room is painted grey. The table we would like to get is a mixed finish oak and melamine top. The chairs are dark blue/teal and cream velvet. The table has oak frame and legs and the top in white. Will the cream clash with white? Our skirting and open plan kitchen next door has white too if that helps? The table top can also come in grey but I'm not sure that will look right? Please see pics attached. Don't paint it and spoil it. Sand it back. Chairs should be easy once they're sanded back to reupholster. I sanded back dining room chairs many years ago to get rid of the dark shade and just applied a finish. We are still using the same chairs and they look great. We've upholstered them around 5 times as we've decorated, but this is something that we've been able to do ourselves to keep costs down.
