Hi there - thanks for your enquiry. There are olives in the foreground and then the taller ones are Magnolia grandiflora (standards).

Absolutely echo comments above regarding raising the soil level around the tree, a big no no as it will mean at best the tree will struggle and fail to thrive and will probably eventually die. Decking is a good solution if you want to install a seating area around the tree, with planting around it to soften the edges. I would maybe look at a composite decking as it will mean less maintenance and will not become as slippery as timber in a shaded area, also if going for a contemporary look it can look very sleek, especially if choosing a grey or even black. You could also add in some lower growing shrubs, herbaceous, spring bulbs etc and create a edge of woodland feel to this area, which would have interest and create a lovely view, whatever the time of year. Hello Sarah. Ref your skirting, the Ogee and Chamfered are lovely but it may be helpful to consider the ceiling height in relation to the depth of the skirting. We are in a 1970s townhouse - VERY plain architecture - and the ceilings are not high. The skirting is very simple - around 4” and just a slight slope in to the wall along the top edge - so it’s recessive to the eye and gives a lot of wall space (i need space for art on the wall so this is good for me). The other thing I would consider is how much dust they might collect (boring but in my case, the easier to clean the better).

That part is the sill or threshold, improving it should really have been addressed before installing the door. To do anything now, if you have the depth will need a strong hard tile on the face (1st) and then on top, something tough like a bullnosed quarry tile would do it. You can get them in a blue grey that should match the dark slabs you have there. Render is not really for traffic. Alternatively, perhaps some hardwood.

Thanks Carolina. I think adding an edge to simple but full linen curtains might be a good way of ensuring they're not just lost in what is quite a large room and I agree with you forzaitalia a pale shade would allow the rug to shine - thankyou so much for your pics and comment. I think I'm almost there! Would you still have a Roman blind at the smaller window Carolina? McPeeple - I only discovered the company OKA in the past year and love their lookbooks and catalogues - they're very eclectic and stylish - just google OKA.
