Ideas to Modernise House Exterior

Hi if anyone has any ideas on how to Modernise the front of this house would be great to hear. I quite like the modern black aluminium windows and modern doors. I also like french window styles. We are also looking to create a small porch as the front door opens straight into the living room but don't want to take to much parking space away. We are also planning to landscape the drive to make it a clear drive. I've also added a picture of the door we like but am not sure wether it would suit the house.

@cyn222 Thanks. One thing I don't exactly love is the stone wall near the front door! I quite like the black tile stripe going from top to bottom (I assume this is what you are referring to as slatted wood?) The property is in Cornwall UK, but not exactly a townhouse. There is 3 in a row of a similar build, this one is right on the end, at the end of a cul-de-sac. @judyg Thanks, this is certainly a good idea.. Although I'm not sure if this may be a bit too modern?

muttleyz, glad to hear it's improving (the lawn, that is). If moss and weed appear to form most of the problems this may be a least in part due to a build up of thatch at the surface level. There appears to be no source of day-long shadow which would be the other prime suspect. Scarifying would help and for that size of lawn you could do it by hand with a fairly cheap metal lawn rake. Looking at the variation in colour in your picture you will probably take up quite a lot of thatch by raking in all four directions in turn. Make sure you press down at least a little so you're not just raking over the sward. Moss hates bright natural daylight and thatch gives it shade whilst holding the moisture at surface level to feed it. With only the correct amount of thatch left, i.e. a small amount, light and water get to the grass roots, the grass becomes a whole lot healthier and virtually smothers the weeds, usually with only a minimum of help if any needed from fertilisers or weedkillers. The unobservant may not notice the lawn has improved yet they will discern the whole place looks somehow brighter, cleaner, without being able to ascertain why. The front of your home is lovely. Don't make any drastic changes like painting brick or rendering the entire facade. Instead, look at the front gardens of other homes in your area and study books on domestic landscaping for ideas. The picket fence, although very sweet, is not contemporary. If you want fencing, consider more sophisticated styles. Alternatively, planting a hedge in box or copper beech would give a sharp edge to the property and you can soften the frontage by growing an evergreen climber like clematis or honeysuckle. Additional box balls and pyramids in a partarre bed with herbaceous planting inside gives year round greenery and colour in the summer. Discuss the drive with your neighbour and consider a drive of pavers that will allow water to seep between instead of running off into the road. If you're trying to achieve an ultra contemporary look, when dealing with dated exteriors people usually opt for: wooden cladding, rendering the whole house and painting it white, new windows with grey frames, a contemporary door with sandblast sidelights and a toplight, replacing old roof tiles with flat interlocking clay tiles and bifolding or sliding patio doors on the exterior of the house. Any combination of the above would give it a modern feel, but if you had to choose one single thing new windows would go a long way. Would love to see a photograph to be able to give more specific recommendations!
