Ideas to modernise 80s bungalow exterior
Hi all
We're currently renovating and extending an 80s bungalow. We're doing ok with the interior but we're really struggling with how to modernise the exterior. we don't want to do any building work on the exterior in terms of porch extensions etc but we'd like to lose the dated look. I don't have a pic of our house to hand but it's something similar to the one below, with two slightly larger windows to the left of the door, and one to the right. We're going to be changing the windows anyway and are looking at grey colours for the frames but I'd be keen to hear any thoughts on what to do with the windows, colours, etc to make the outside more contemporary, or any feedback from others who have taken on a similar renovation.

Comments (5)I think you need to look at the cost of the glass veranda as it is likely to be more expensive than the render that you say you can't afford. I am also not convinced it is going to look better because of the proposed flat roof on the bay- you could always get rid of the bay and have a plain window instead. Personally I think that you make the lounge lighter by adding light reflecting paving/ chippings/ pond outside the bay. You can also likely make the room feel lighter by changing the flooring in the room for paler. I really like the double front doors but glass doors would of course let in more light. I think replacing the digits and facials will make very little difference to the feel of the house and should be the last job you do not the first. If it were my house I would be more concerned about the windows above the front door. Personally I would perhaps have just one window here and if another window is necessary put in a velux above. Lastly you write about wanting to update the house.... do you like the style of this era.... if not perhaps you should be thinking about changing the window proportions or covering the brick even though this may not currently be in budget?...See MoreHelp needed to update 80s Bungalow
Comments (17)Please do live in it for at least 6 months and get to know your new space before making any drastic changes. You need to see how the light works inside and out, which rooms you like and which need a re-think, if the plumbing/kitchen/storage space/electrics or garden space need improvement or enlargement. 7 years agoI'd also love to see an example of the cladding Maire. When it comes to the windows, where would you put the window openings e.g, would you divide each window into 2/3 sections like the pic below?
