Which kitchen worktop (colour and type)?
Comments (14)Have you had a look at quartz (silestone, compac, cimstone etc)? They offer a lot of white coloured stone and it has the features of granite worktops with the look, feel and touch but they come without the added maintenance of granite worktops. Wood worktops compliment light coloured kitchens but they do come with extra maintenance that if not kept up to scratch will make the wood look nasty after a while. Corian is a solid surface material that comes with various white/grey/light colourways and a key thing that makes it popular is that the joins are invisible, so it looks like one giant piece. Personal preference and a lot of pictures will get you an idea of what it is you want. There are quite a lot of options out there so make sure you take some time to research each worktop material and brand....See MoreTwo colour kitchen - which units which colour.
Comments (6)Hello, We would agree with the other comments above. There is no rule that you must abide by but generally speaking if you are to have a two toned kitchen, lighter colours for wall cabinets and the darker colour would be used on the base units, as for the tall cabinet this is very much a 50/50 decision. Comments (2)Great questions, but depends on many things. Firstly - the style of kitchen. Modern handless designs tend to welcome a stone worktop better than laminate, cottage style kitchens work well with natural wood worktops. The great thing about modern laminate is that it is now available in so many different colours and textures that from a distance you would be pushed to tell if it is stone or laminate. Unfortunately it does not offer the durability of the stone worktops, however it is an unbeatable option for the budget conscious client. Coincidentally, I have just visited a stone worktop showroom where I have filmed a video with their director talking about quartz and granite worktops (probably useful for clients) - this is the link: Kitchen Worktop Discussion and I have also written a blog post about worktop material choice Which Worktop to Choose?
