Glass dividing wall

Hi,

I am wondering how much it would cost to install a glass dividing wall. It would require knocking down a wall before install. Also, where can they be purchased from?

The cost to remove an existing wall would depend upon whether it was load bearing or not, whether it required a lintel or a steel beam etc... the glass wall itself is open to interpretation. Is this to be made out of timber, UPVC or aluminium? is to to be openable? is it merely a large window pane or is it to act as a door. if it is to be the same as in the picture, this will usually be fabricated on site by a carpenter.

If you need to keep the space open due to light levels, then shelves with an interesting display would work well, a glass divide/window can look odd on an internal wall, if you are not careful, although, depending on the rest of the house, the crittal window might look interesting too. Stained glass would have to look good on both sides and could be very expensive. I like the look of the climbing rope diy on the stairs, it might be worth trying that idea too. Please don't go with the fish tank, horrible expensive out of place smelly things in a nice clean home, they remind me of pet shops! It really boils down to what you like the look of best, if you really have to keep the space open, just don't forget there is nothing wrong with feeling warm in your home and there is more chance of that if you don't feel a blast of cold air every time the front door is opened, so don't rule out a proper wall if it at all possible.

Thanks for all the comments. In reference to drawing attention to it, it's a fair point but isn't it a bit like a skirting board? Dark wall, white skirting board, stands out. We all do it. White walls with white skirting board would look odd, no? Personally, I like the dark grey pelmet (by the way, ignore the units below, there's no worktop on them at the moment) partly because it's not doing what is always done and partly because it does act a bit like an underline. My more important other half, however, prefers the light grey. She's the boss so she wins :/

Hi Alexandria, if you're still considering this could you sketch the layout or post any pictures? I feel like I don't 100% grasp the space and what you're trying to do! Will the opening be filled with just a window, or will it also have a door? Will you have kitchen cabinets & counter on the other side of the wall divide? If the opening will just be filled with a window, I think go for multiple panes - one large glass window could look a bit odd, could have a bit of an aquarium vibe... The black crittall look you posted is lovely, and could be a good option. Would you be open to adding some black industrial touches to your decor to harmonize with it? If not, then you could consider going for a white casement style instead - which you could then paint navy / another complementary colour to match your kitchen better. Some examples in white below. If you're having to add a wall, it can be an opportunity for more storage or a nice seating area :D So you could do half window for the top, and bottom half could be storage or seating against the wall. Either is handy in a hallway! :) Examples below

Just wondering why you would want to put up a divider between kitchen and dining? I can understand having living separate, but I wouldnt have glass. A divider would be used to close off, make more snug, switch yourself off by whats going on at the other side, but if it was glass I don't see how that would work best.
