I agree - some good warm lighting and soft furnishings to the room (perhaps some Metallics and mirrors to bounce light around as well) would look fab. Our old lounge was small, dark & North facing and I went all in dark & moody with it in blacks & greys. Only difference is I added more mirrors and a splash of colour with the cushions.

Thanks OnePlan, love the space, very similar to a room we have, ours isnt as grey, wish now it was... Just realised your in Dorset as well.. may have to use your professional services soon, we have a decent sized house but it just doesnt work, lots of room but hardly ever use half of them.. think its time to knock a few walls out and reconfigure stuff a bit...

We're all for a bit of hard work, and would definitely paint the cupboards. You are right not to use F&B, it's an inferior paint compared to dulux, and not correct for your purposes, being Eggshell finish. Dulux Trade Satinwood is far better, gives a better finish and is hardwearing. ( It's also more expensive than F&B i'm afraid, but you get what you pay for ). I'd paint the cupboards in a pale grey and replace the knobs. Give the area behind the bed a good dark grey finish, to help with making your choice of headboard really stand out.
