Colour for kitchen and granite table legs and chairs

Hello

I'll be renovating the kitchen in a year or two and in the meantime I would like to tidy it up a little bit and make it a bot more elegant and neutral.

I'll leave the cupboards etc and tiles (sadly for now) - they are so pin) but thinking about:

1. Painting the yellow walls white

2. Painting the blue tiles light grey or white

3. Painting the table legs and the chairs white or light grey. The table has a granite top as you see, The chair seats are beige.

What do you think about these ideas? Do you have any other suggestions?

Hello Ewa,

The colour of your kitchen
cupboards are a beautiful soft shade, and add a splash of colour into your
kitchen and dining space. I would
suggest painting your kitchen walls in Dulux White Mist - this is a calming
white shade with a subtle hint of grey which would work well with your
cupboards. My advice is to use Dulux Kitchen+ Matt paint for the kitchen walls,
as it is tough against grease, dirt and stains. Combine this with Dulux Pure Brilliant White
for your kitchen tiles to create a light fresh space. I recommend you paint
your kitchen tiles using Dulux Eggshell to create a
low-sheen finish.

Finally, to complete the look, my suggestion would be to paint your dining
table legs and chairs in Dulux Brushed Buckle - this will tie together the
whole colour palette, creating depth and warmth to your space, while working
well with the granite table top. My recommendation would be
Satinwood paint as this gives interior wood a hard-wearing, subtle sheen finish
- ideal for adding a modern effect to your home.

My initial reaction to the photos was that the kitchen units' colour somehow didn't quite 'gel' in the room and I was rather hoping colourhappy would come in and be able to cast her professional eye over it. I still really like the granite and I agree that at least changing the lower units will work. Perhaps the upper units need changing too? J Pleass, would you consider doing that?

I recommend, dark mahogany legs,or tie in with gold if available, colour ways on the chairs, keep in with the mustard, burgundy, Teal or burnt orange.

Emily, don't I need a special paint for kitchen tiles? I see that the one you've suggested is certainly cheaper than the paint for tiles but I'm worried that it might fade/get dirty? I know it is Eggshell etc. Thanks

Hi Ewa,

I’m glad you found my suggestions useful and thank you for
your query.

There are two options for your kitchen tiles; the first idea
I suggested is to use Eggshell paint. This will achieve a low sheen finish,
creating a contemporary look for your kitchen, as well as providing a long
lasting protection. Before applying eggshell paint to the kitchen tiles, I
would recommend using ‘Dulux primer for difficult surfaces’.

Another option is to use tile paint which also comes in the
suggested colour of Pure Brilliant White. I have included links for both the
primer (to go on before the Eggshell paint), and the tile paint choice, so you
can have a look into which option is suitable for yourself.

Hello Ewa

If you are going to renovate the kitchen in a year or two I would be very inclined to leave things as they are. I know a coat of paint can make a big difference but I'm also aware there is a cost and a time element in the sort of refresh you are considering. If you have other areas of the home you want to get on with - let them take centre stage. Your kitchen is very acceptable as it is though it lacks a bit of energy. If that is what you feel you need I suggest you buy a wall mural or very large piece of art for the dining area wall (from your photographs this looks a little sparse). Take a look at https://www.surfaceview.co.uk - there are some fab ideas there. Or treat yourself to some original art that you know will work with your eventual scheme (take a look at Select A Maker Art.)

Yasmin, I have a few days off so I thought I might make the area a bit nicer, but it is indeed a temporary fix.
Yes, I will need something for the wall. As previous owners left a large mirror I might paint a frame (which is gold with a pattern) and put it up. In a year or two I might look into the art work :)
