I need a solution for shelving in my shower

Hello, I really need some help! I'm in the midst of a bathroom refurb and desperately need a solution for shelving in the shower. It's a small ensuite shower room and sadly neither of the walls surrounding the shower are deep enough for an alcove. So I need some form of external shelving solution. Ideally not metal as I'd prefer to avoid rust. I cannot find anything suitable and would welcome any and all ideas!

If you do an online search, you should find many non-rusting metal shelves available for showers. They are often stainless steel or chrome-plated brass grids which don't collect water. The main issue is fixing them without creating a path for water to get through the cubicle linings (tiles, panels, etc.). It's best to take advice on that, since it depends on the linings used and exactly how they've been fixed.

For a start I would glass over the window opening so it is sealed but openable. Then a plain frosted plastic film on the other side of the glass. Because of the shape etc you are not going to be able to have a glass screen. So I would move the shower rail nearer the window. Then have a triangular waterproof curtain made that can easily hook onto some eyelets on the angled ceiling. A ships chandler would probably be a good place to source these things. Or A smarter and possibly expensive idea, screw a thin mast like structure with a groove to the angled ceiling. Then as you would a sail have your curtain move up and down in the grove. Otherwise seal and drain the floor immediately where the excess water is spraying which is a pain. When I was trained as a furniture designer/maker in 1981 at The John Makepeace School for Craftsmen in Wood, we had amazing original roll top baths with Carrara marble bases in each bathroom. The bases had a drain in so any water splashing out of the bath fell onto the drained Carrara, not ideal in this situation. The amazing residential course was at Parnham House, Beaminster, Dorset which was built in 1522, it had great detail even in the bathrooms.

I would leave leave the centre divide in have the side with the stair box in as shelving and put two rails in the other side for double height hanging. looking at the height you may get a shelf above the top rail also.

No, it is not too late, in fact you could not have done it before. I’d suggest taking accurate measurements to a glass supplier, they should know what deductions to make to enable them to fit accurately. If the tiles are porcelain a diamond tip drill bit will be required to affix the brackets. It will look very smart!

there are sure to be non-metal shelves you could simply purchase from a hardware store and mount. how big is the shower, and is there a seat built in? If so, you can build up a one-brick wide ledge as a shelf

well, you could actually build in a ledge without a shower seat... but can you afford to lose the space?
