"Easy/Quick" improvements

Hi community!
I started living on my own a few month ago. I'm trying to change the studio in Barcelona (I will stay in for 3-4 years) into a great study/work/life place.
I've started painting the main room white, installed a white board and put a desk next to the window. Tomorrow I'm installing a big painting (still don't know where) and I'm slowly getting rid of the old paint on the window. What other easy/quick improvements can I do to my new home?

Comments (47)Hello All, hope you're having a lovely Saturday - just saw Wales win their first Euro 16 match; very happy, now waiting for England. Quick update: cut the grass on a high setting following advice and did some weeding. Decided to jet wash the patio but found that my garden hose had holes in it. Had to dash, in the rain, to Poundstretcher to get a new one. I've never used a jet wash power and had a little taster. See below. Tomorrow, I hope to wash the patio properly but it's hard work. Tommy Turtle's looking a lot better and you can the slabs that I've done so far. Think I need to sweep first as the moss was flying everywhere! A little comparison, of what can be. Melissa- hello!! lovely to see a fellow weege. definitely helps to hear that taking it out would have been the big undertaking we fearwed ( and cant afford!) sorry for you though, bet it is starting to look amazing!! are there pics? Comments (61)Hi Jen, I would leave headboard as it is without painting, I'm not sure about the round thing in the middle...the best would be a simple natural wood one with plain surface... Anyway if you decide to paint it sand it first with sandpaper and make all corners round, it will give a special personal touch. :) Make sure that it is well fixed to the bed....See More

Thanks for all the helpful responses, you are great! This is my first update after some hours of heavy cleaning and tidying.
- The reason for white painting is mostly to survive hot summers. I like the clean look too.
- I have a feeling putting shutters on an old window would be quite expensive. I like the idea of washing the curtains thought.
- I only have 1 bulb per room but I feel at the moment it's enough because of all the natural light I get. They are Philips hue bulbs so it's easy to change colours and intensity :D
- I am very selective and slow at decision making but maybe spending a day choosing a rug could be worth it. Please feel free to leave suggestions of styles for rugs, would help a lot!
- I have two mirrors at the entrance (the cubicle where the robot is on). Do I need more in the main room?
- I am very keen on putting a whole wall space just full of green plants. Kind if like the "green space" of the home, a bit of a an art experience. Or like painting but with plants in it. Or maybe just random green hanging plants. I'm a bit lost on this one.
- I want to get rid of the (green?) things hanging outside the window. I feel they are very aesthetically unpleasant and are too relevant with white walls. Is there any problem with doing so?
Please tell me what you think. What are good or bad directions from here! Thanks again for the great responses, it really is an adventure to start living on your own!
