Stepping stones? Patio?

Love this whole job! The stepping stones - did you create them on-site by pouring concrete into a shaped form/mold?
- What is the name of the gravel surrounding the stones?
- The patio surface is wonderful - is it glazed concrete?

The concrete steps were poured in place. Free form no forms and then stamped. Gravel is 3/8 California Gold(looks like larger pieces of decomposed granite). Salt finish concrete on patio with broom band and sealed.

Thanks Thomas. Do we roll seeds then lay slabs or lay slabs and roll around them. Will they just eventallu sink to soil level?

We originally had a little gap for the steps with the old patio, but we took away most of the wall when we had the patio re-laid and it makes it far easier to move around the area when we use the table and chairs. It makes it seem much bigger and more spacious. We have a variety of pots and planters on the step to provide a visual reminder that there's a drop.

Thank you all for your comments and feedback - From the feedback seems that the benefits of having a flush transition to the exterior space outweighs the disadvantage of the big drop at the end. In terms of the steps, as the garden is small and not very deep wide steps from the end of the patio would take up too much space so I was thinking of using recessed steps (see image) - it reduces the usable patio space but keeps the garden area.
