Hi, I love this kitchen! Could you tell me the colour of the paint in the walls and what type of wood is on the floor? Thanks

Hi Jackie,

The paint on the walls is from the Historic Colours collection by Papers and Paints in Park Walk Chelsea. Its called Fenching Blue code HC43 and changes with the light from watery blue, to grey to green - I've used it for years as its great for warming up marble and giving some soul to a space.

The floor is from Domus Tiles in Battersea and is actually a porcelain tile but is ridged and feels and looks like wood. The colour is DRSK03 "selection oak" which is a soft grey. There are 2 finishes (the grip version continues outside on the patio, the natural is inside). The format used here is very long and wider than a standard oak plank - there are six board sizes to choose from.

I think that is a lot better. YAY! You'll get good flow from the utility straight into the kitchen with your shopping bags, coats, etc. and it looks like there'll be enough space in the "extended hall" to use it constructively. I do have a couple more questions/suggestions: - The doorway from the utility with the fridge next to it - if the fridge door is open, you won't be able to get through. Also, because the area next to the fridge is all wall cabinets, you might have the "where do I dump things?" issue. I would put another counter on the left wall between the two banks of cupboards. It'll probably only be two or three cabinets and counter, but I think it'll be handy. OR you could put the FF there. - I'd centre the hob on the island, but I think that is a good spot for it. - The other thing is something One Plan raised - walk in pantry? You could have part of the utility dedicated to this, or do you think you'll have enough food storage with the wall cupboard near the ovens (I assume this will be a pull out number as these are really handy to be able to see everything.

Thank you very much for your comments. Yes I agree regarding the fridge but I have looked at putting in the bottom right corner of the plan (in fact we still can). Am hoping to knock the wall on the right hand side into the dining room in a few years and there is currently a lovely old dresser in that space at the moment. So don't want to put anything too permanent there. Also where you suggested the fridge could go (next to the sink I believe) is where the dishwasher is. Plus a under counter fridge is not big enough for my hungry family unfortunately! Also can you believe that the quotes I've had for Quartz are more expensive than recycled glass!?!?

Thank you for your kind comments. Our original kitchen was a dark and dingy internal one with only one fan light above a solid door giving very little borrowed light. Last year we opened up the original doorway near the sink, to make way for the tall window to the hall, then we closed off the original door and replaced it with another tall window, and to finish it off, we turned the room around to give a full length of units and worktops, and installed a full length glass door with fanlight almost to ceiling, and the result is that we still have an internal kitchen, but with loads of borrowed light from all over the place. It now never gets dark. We opted not to have drainage flutes as we have a full size dishwasher, and this allowed us to maximise the lemgth of worktops. I am reliably told that flutes on granite or Quartz worktops are a waste of time and space. Perhaps I should say that I (68) designed the kitchen, including the windows and door, and my husband of 75 installed the kitchen units, did the plumbing, with only the worktops being done by the supplier. It is perfectly level and he has done an amazing job, perfectly level! As for th alessi trivet, that was a treat after weeks of disruption (May 25th to August 29th. Too complicated to give details) and I feel the need of another Alessi treat coming on very soon!

We had a similar problem. Had two rads and two plinth heaters, but they weren't working properly and we were freezing. Had the plumber in and he adjusted them and now we're toasty in a matter of minutes. Get one plinth heater put in and plug in a small electric coal or log effect stove ( cheap enough) to bridge the gap. If your windows are thermally bridged have you thought about contacting the window installer to complain , about the problems you are having? The builder, too , as he should have ensured your extension was properly insulated. The suggestion about thermal lined curtains that pull right back during the day is spot on as it will help insulate the room and the kitchen will be warmer in the mornings to come down to. Finally the door is essential as both the hall and front door area are most likely sucking away any warmth from the kitchen area, especially if there is a stairwell. I now think if I was doing mine again I would dig up the floor and put in underfoot heating but this is way too disruptive to consider now. Best of luck.

Hi Lauren the room is 6.7m by 6m because it includes the side extension in its width, you cannot see from the photos on Houzz but the room also contains a walk in pantry (behind the tall appliances wall) and a boot room with a door to the side of the house. Hope useful.

Hi, sorry the client is abroad now and has let the house. However, if helpful we did open shelves on 2 walls at right angles, a marble top and drawers under. Wine was in the basement with a further kitchen so it was simply for food with nice displays of fresh bread etc. Warm regards, Anastasia
