It does not require it but you would need to clean really well to get an even and clean covering. It usually needs more than one coat I find.. but you will need to see dependent on the colouring. It can be OK but only as a temporary fix and you need to take your time and do it properly as mistakes are really hard to change once you start painting - a run in it for example. It then also very noticeable. Personally if you hate it and it doesn't go with the new room your starting to create then I think go for it. It's a cost effective way to make you happy until you can change it later. I appreciate you can not see too well on the picture but these black tiles in this photo have been painted as the client was on a very tight budget and didn't want to rip the bright green ones off and start again! http://www.createperfect.co.uk/press?lightbox=dataItem-iqwcsy178 All the best, Gina

Hi Lauren. Without measuring up I'm not sure if this would work as pictures can be deceptive and estate agents plans not always wholly accurate:) However this room looks to be the same width as yours with the window in the same position. As you can see the bed head is a little wider than the chimney breast. If you could do this (I'm guessing it leaves 2.5ft walkway at the end assuming the door actually opens!), you could have a built in dressing table in the left alcove with the wardrobe in the top right hand corner (with sliding doors) as per the plan. If not I agree, it looks as if you'd need to go for shallow depth wardrobes. I'd cut out paper templates of everything and try them in the room
