Does the 1st and 3rd door (from right) of the wall wardrobe actually open? Seems like a design flaw...

Ooh interesting thought , looking at it it doesn't work because of the angle of the roof. They could be pull out cupboards though!

I've always gone with hinged doors since I scared my clothes could get snagged on the runners (I'm probably being over cautious) and I like to be able to see all my clothes at once so I can figure out an outfit.

Thanks everyone for your comments, much appreciated. I do not know what the wardrobes are made of, but they're certainly not wood. There is hardly any gap between the bed and the sides of the wardrobe. The bedroom is quite small, so I can't really move the bed to another part of the room. I think I shall try either painting the doors (maybe such a special paint exists?!) and putting on new handles, or having the actual doors and handles replaced. Yes, they do look very very dated, but I like the fact that lots of stuff can be stored inside (even in the top cupboards, which add to the old fashioned look of the wardrobes). Thanks again.

Curtains are a no from me instead of doors. I always think they’ll attract dust. If you want to add some colour to detract from the sterile look could you paint the existing wardrobe doors? If not then go for the sliders.
