Smart tiles/Peel and stick tiles

Has anyone experience of these? The pictures look great but wary they might look cheap. I'm trying to update a kitchen and considering using these as a splash back and covering the existing wall tiles. Are they hard to source?

They do have tendency to look cheap and most often than not you can easily distinguish between real and stick on tiles.

I'd stick to actual tiles or consider a glass splashback to help add colour and give a modern dimension

The tiles will be covering the areas coloured light blue on this plan (the white and dark blue will be covered with panelling). Have narrowed it down to three tiles which will fit without too much faffing/cutting: Lucy - a 15x15 tile, though not sure if I should stick with one colour or do some kind of mix with the blues and white. https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/bathroom-tiles/lucy-tiles Rhian - a 10x30 tile. I would have to apply the tiles vertically along the worktop by the sink though, as trimming 1-2cm off several 7.5 width tiles sounds like a recipe for lots of broken bits... Any thoughts on tile selection/orientation please? Had a play in Paint at some possibles.

We didn’t have one put behind our sink but we have a boiling water tap and it splutters all the time and I’m forever cleaning the wall. The paint is supposed to be for kitchens but it can only endure so many washes! We will eventually put one on - perhaps a 12” glass one so the dark paint on the walls will show through. You could consider tiling a couple of rows or get solid colours ie pure white if your sink wall is only ever going to be white.

I've been waiting for someone to ask me this :-) I think your first idea is a good one. You could go one of two routes: 1. part tile in white satin ceramic and edge with chrome or satin strip or a pencil tile - something from Original Style Glassworks range would look great but they are pricey- then paint two walls in a strong but not saturated blue toned grey: something like F&B Hardwick White or Little Greene's Urbane Grey and Inox - if possible get two shades on the walls. For the floor I would go with a grey and white lino check and accessorise as you've suggested - I would steer clear of anything orange that is going to accentuate the orange tone in the suite but ochre tones would work, for example macrame plant hangers. I would stick to chrome and satin nickel. Choose an off white for any woodwork - Flake White has a very slight hint of brown which would balance the champagne without you being conscious of it. 2. Again use white satin tiles and edge with chrome or satin nickel strip or a glass pencil tile but this time "lose" the champagne tone among other neutrals as you've suggested: from the Fired Earth colour card, shades like Canvas, White Ochre, Old White, Papyrus and again Flake white would work well. Again a grey and white check would work for the floor or even this wood effect, which picks up the brown tones. Accessorise with dark blue/grey accents and plenty of greenery. I always advise use of a sample board. Play about with paint samples. We sell painted A4 sheets for £1 each plus postage - cheaper than tester pots and more effective. If the different elements work together on the board, they will work in the room. Alternatively we offer sample boards to buy or hire - £30 or £15 respectively. Each board includes a range of compatible samples which you then pick and mix, eliminating what you don't like until you arrive at the scheme you want. Good luck!

Thanks for advice. Would painting the tiles work? I'm thinking French grey/purbeck stone or a taupe colour for units. Basically I'm trying to turn this into this on a tight budget. What colour would you suggest for tiles?

Do you mean you want to replace your tiles or just cover up the 'feature' ones you have?

I know you can buy tile stickers that will can effectively update feature tiles but probably wouldn't look good on a whole wall. Painting would be better for that - just make sure you really scrub and clean them first and use a quality primer and paint.

I just want ant to update the tiles really. I would probably have gone for white metro tiles if I was replacing them but budget won't allow. I think I'll try painting them
