A trend that should end
Comments (1300)For me it’s maximalism. Lovely in a quirky cafe or boutique hotel but at home it would give me a headache. I like a restful house and so yes quite a lot of it is grey! Not battleship grey or anthracite but bluey or greeny greys. Concrete floors. Depressing, cold, ecologically not great, look unfinished. Plants very high up. How do you water them? Walk in wardrobes even if it means the bedroom becomes tiny. I’d rather have a bigger bedroom with wardrobes in it, than dress and sleep in tiny spaces. Uber industrial. There’s a reason we usually hide cables, conduits, vent ducts...because they are ugly. Buying new furniture and accessories very often to have an “up to date“ look. I see all these instagram pictures with everything brass, mid century, wood, rattan, green (today’s trends) and I wonder what has happened to all their grey, painted, silver, shabby chic items from 5/10 years ago. And what will they do with today’s items when the look swings round again......See MoreBland Kitchen
Comments (38)I'll be able to get one in a few weeks as the whole house has been renovated and the decorator has his pasting table and paints etc in there at the moment. I think the kitchen is beautiful but 'safe.' If it were me I would bust the budget on designer lights over the seating area, change the stools to Kartell Ghost/Masters/One More/ More Please stools and hang a large canvas on the wall directly behind the stools. She probably won't be able to match a colour to the units - the designer who designed my kitchen informed me post installation that the company purposely makes their colours virtually impossible to match up so that nothing can be mixed and matched from other companies! If you want a colour to match, match up with the handles - chrome and maybe think about a silver or very light grey blind. Its truly worth going to a professional interior design studio as their range of fabrics is phenomenal and they would be able to make the perfect window covering that would work a treat. In my home city there are dozens of places which offer this service and have a wonderful rage of blinds. I'm writing this presuming you want contemporary - if you have a bigger budget you could tile the wall opposite the sink with modern marble or slate tiles etc. If you want boutique - roman blind, crystal pendants and art and keep the current stools. Paint all white and make your art stunning (think the way art is displayed in a gallery on bright white walls.) I think you are looking for the 'wow' factor and that takes time - I have redesigned my bedroom 3 times and I posted on here for advice on my wall colours in my lounge - it's frustrating but worth it when you know you have the look!...See MoreWhat do you think of open plan bathrooms?
Comments (65)I'm looking to renovate the ensuite of my 2 bed flat and came across photos of open plan bathrooms. Some of the photos look great and I'm considering it as I don't have much room to work with in the bathroom and my bedroom has room I can use. I'm looking at moving the basin into the bedroom area, which would free up space for a bath and shower. I was thinking of making the basin look less bathroom-y and more like a makeup desk using wood and soft furnishing and a full length mirror. The rest of the bathroom would be behind a wall (no door). Main problem is that the door to the bedroom will open to the the basin (the rest of the bedroom is on the left), which I guess would put people off. I quite like the idea but I'm concerned it would put off potential buyers (more so after reading the comments). Should I stick with a traditional ensuite? I can put a bath and shower in there but I think it would be too cramped or I can loose the bath and have more room with just a shower. What do you think?...See MoreBefore & After: Roof Top Gazebo
