Where would you have your dream holiday home?
Comments (67)Kalami in North East Corfu. Beautiful clear blue sea, bleached pebble beach dotted with driftwood overlooked by hills lined with ancient olive and pine trees. A couple of fabulous tavernas on the beach and a water taxi every evening to take you to one of the superb tavernas on the beach (literally) on Agni bay or Agios Stefanos. Grilled calamari, octopus stifado or king crab linguini eaten on a jetty overlooking the bay and the fishing boats - accompanied by a glass of excellent Corfiot wine. No large hotels, nightclubs or English pubs. Unspoilt just like the Greek islands used to be!...See MoreDo you like your neighbourhood?
Comments (23)We are blessed to live in the best neighbourhood and it's not because of the town, the amenities, the view, the shops, the transport links and everything else people have mentioned....it's because of our neighbours. We are several households with ages between 26 and 50, some with children (aged 4-23), others don't, we cover a range of professions and interests from sheep rearing to blogging to sausage making, horse riding and cycling. We have monthly get togethers that include curry nights, bbqs and games nights, some of us go on holiday together, others go camping and there's a brewery tour and beer festival every couple of months. We spend hours at a time chatting in the street after work and believe me when I say the men are worse than the women at this! We have a Christmas party every year and support a local school on quiz night. The pudding bake offs are reaching "legendary"status. The kids hangout together in their relevant age groups, I now have a surrogate son and daughter! But even with all of the above its not like we live in each other's pocket, we all do our own thing but we know that we can knock on a door if we need anything. When we went to Australia for 5 weeks at Christmas, leaving my 19 year old daughter to look after the dogs and house I could do it knowing that if she needed anything, just anything she could knock at 44, they even put themselves on the dog walking roster! Forget everything else, without great neighbours the rest of it doesn't mean a thing!...See MoreWhite fence..did we make a mistake? Help!!!
Comments (80)While white fencing isn't for me in a back garden, I have seen loads of pics here on Houzz with white fences and, although they mostly seem to be over in the USA (let's face it - they tend to have better daylight in parts of North America than we do in the UK) I do like the look of it, though. I especially like the whitewash appearance if you're going for a Cottage Garden as it adds a weathered appeal. I went for black in my garden which looks pretty stylish, especially with the greens and whites in front of it. I used to live in a house with a roof terrace and we were advised at the time to not use white on the inside of the parapet walls as it would glare too much. The chosen option for the wall was pale grey (before it was fashionable) and it worked really well. For this reason, I wouldn't have gone for white fence or white furniture....See MoreFinalizing our extension layout - last thoughts please?
Comments (75)Try looking on your local selling groups and Facebook marketplace as they come up all the time. People sell then when they get too big for their hours or when they move and they can’t be bothered to take them with them, ha ha. The new bathroom is still a shell :0( It’s been delayed because it’s now an internal room and we have been trying to work out about putting an outside window in ie cost (around £600!) vs is it worth it because it’s easy facing with a house opposite so gets no sun. Would always have to turn the light on - plus it would be above the shower so can’t open etc. Seems a lot of hastle! I have a separate thread on it somewhere... But anyway, we might create an internal window into the utility and borrow the light from the kitchen?? Not perfect but it’s some natural light at least. Will update the bathroom thread as need help with the shower anyway ;0)...See Moregirlguides
