Love to hear from anyone who has used this heating system and how happy you are with the results? Currently deciding our heating system for a new build.

Hey!! which one you managed to install..

we are getting a Air Source Heat Pump with Underfloor heating!

Fingers crossed how it will cope up to and confused with what flooring we should go with this combination - if Cold Tiles vs Not-good-transmitter Laminate/LVT !!! :(

This type of project seems perfectly suitable for a warm-water underfloor heating solution contained within a standard sand and cement screed. We've received universally positive feedback from our customers about the comfort levels and running costs associated with this type of warm water under floor heating. In ground floor situations such as yours the insulation beneath the screed should be 70mm ‘Celotex’ or equivalent, or conform to Part L of the Building Regulations; so your 100mm of Celotex should be more than satisfactory to prevent downward heat transmission. A standard 65mm deep sand and cement screed would be applied over the underfloor heating tubing. If a reduced depth of screed is required, pumped liquid screed may be used down to a thickness of 50mm. I would like to get water underfloor heating but after speaking to a few people that have it it seems a huge cost! Is it really that expensive? I know it depends on floor area but the figures I’ve heard are shocking. For anyone that has underfloor heating or have any knowledge on it what would I realistically be looking at paying for approx. 35sqm? I am looking at getting quotes but would just like some info from anyone that can help.

Regardless of what finish you choose, the thing with wet UFH is that it relies on heat building up in and being stored in the floor slab. You don’t really ever turn it off in the winter, you just set the room thermostats for different temperatures at different times of the day. In the summer you just set the thermostat to frost setting so it never kicks in. We have tiles and I like having a cool floor in the summer heat, as do my dogs. In autumn and spring other finishes may feel more cosy as sometimes the tiled floor doesn’t feel obviously warm when the air is up to temp, tho it’s not properly cold either.

We have overlay wet ufh which we installed ourselves throughout our ground floor as we were having an extension and the original heating system involved the unsheathed copper pipes being laid into the concrete floor slab. The house is a 70s build and over time the pipe can fail, as we have seen in several houses nearby (the latest only last week!). We decided it was an ideal time to futureproof and change the downstairs heating whilst leaving upstairs as radiators as pipes are under floorboards so don't have the same problems. The UFH is great, only 20mm height increase on the floor. Heats whole room evenly and is so nice underfoot. Costs much less to run than electric UFH and also less than radiators as the water in the pipes is at a lower temperature than is need for radiators. You can do just one room or configure as required. We went with Wunda but other brands are widely available.
