Dove grey wallpaper gold mirror I love it want to hang it.my wife says no what do I do?

Is the question about if the gold frame works with the grey walls- if so the answer is yes as long as there are other gold things in the room. (in fact if everything is silver and grey it can look cold -IMO)

If the question is does this look best hung or stood on the mantle- I think that is down to personal taste- I would hang it.

It matches the gold/brass colour on the fire, so yes.

A lot of people ask how easy it is to clean stainless steel [worktops]. The simple answer is 'very easy' and GEC Anderson recommend the microfibre cloths that have been mentioned by a number of contributors, in combination with cold water. Simply wipe down the worktop after use to prevent build up of streaks or marks - especially, in hard water areas. And that's it! Some words of caution probably should be taken into account before making a final decision as to whether stainless steel suits your lifestyle. Stainless steel is prone to attracting finger prints and marks and so the key here is to regularly wipe down the surface so as not to let dirt and extraneous material to build up in the first place. Another thing to consider is that stainless steel will scratch and mark over time. This is perfectly normal! Scratches and marks will build up over time, creating a unique patina appearance. Simply ignore them. Your stainless steel worktop will outlast pretty much every other alternative worktop material and should provide you with several decades of useful service.

I agree with Rennew Traditional Building Materials - it's not a question of what's 'trending' or 'passé', but of really paying attention to the existing building and marrying that with the sensibility of the future inhabitant. Some spaces suit the industrial treatment, some don't, and no-one should be forced to be fashionable. I can't help thinking of the old Bauhaus principle of 'truth to materials' though. If you find yourself faking an 'authentically exposed' surface, then something isn't quite clicking in your analysis of what's in front of your nose. Not that I wasn't once taken in by an entirely ersatz 'industrial' café in Paris once, which was not, as I'd supposed, a converted butchers! The convincingly-aged metro tiles were to die for...

@Tom Flanagan - thank you! It is my last two homes / projects. I went from Regency mansion flat renovation to 1960's tower block for the view. But, Oh what a view! Whether or not to use a valance is dependent on the style of bed and the room it's in. I'm about to make up gathered valances for a client in a colourful fabric by Voyage Decoration. It will soften the hard lines of the wood bed frame and add lots of colour to the single beds. The same fabric is being used for the gathered valance on the large angled bay window. This Edwardian room can take the large areas of pattern and will benefit from the frilliness. In another room, I've specified a plain valance in a dobby weave with pleats at the corners and in the middle of the long sides of the bed. The room is elegant but simple. In another, more contemporary home, I've used upholstered bedsteads so no valances were required. Incidently, in the USA what we refer to as a bed valances is known as a dust ruffle. Yes it catches the dust, but throwing the valance in a washing machine quickly solves that problem.

I don't mind the gold but the proportions of the mirror overwhelm the fireplace. I would look for a smaller one - 2/3rds the width of the mantle is classic.
