Hi If you need to keep the wardrobes I would paint them a dark colour - (maybe put glass in the panels?) Take away the 'curve' (under the small cabinets above the bed) - this dates it. Keep the lines straight Put a wood floor down - gives an industrial feel and put a rug down/sheep skin dark roller blind/slats move the 'desk' under the window - it makes the room feel old paint the walls a darker colour to match the wardrobes or a brick effect wallpaper or wood Change the bed frame to a more industrial look See photos attached for inspiration Hope these ideas help. I think t&g would work as you often see in attics however I'm guessing that's not the style you want. If you want georgian style panelling I think you need to follow the shape of the wall for panels, I've attached (a badly drawn) picture but hopefully you get the gist.
