Living room layout help!
I will soon be moving in to a new house and I am struggling to layout the living room!
I've attached a picture of the living room as it is now. I've had a go on a floor plan website (I've also put a couple of pictures below) however I'm worried that the layout is maybe a little awkward with the large sofa in between the front door and living room door. I think it also looks a bit cramped.
Any help or ideas would be really appreciated! I haven't bought any furniture yet so the below is just an idea. Thanks! :)

Comments (10)Thank you, E D. The tv is in the corner right now and it looks bit awkward to me there, because of the fireplace and the position of the sofa. I think if you put it on a low tv cabinet, it shouldn’t block too much of the patio door. The door is quite large. It would be good if Bev could move the furniture around just to see if it would work. Comments (10)Hi Becky, I have some possible layout ideas, as I am unsure of the room measurements some of the layouts my not be possible. You may notice I have added a chair/armchair, layout 5 is pretty much what you have now, by adding the chair brings the room together as (like you said) bringing it off the wall. Sometimes a room needs breaking up. Think flow, how much of the space you actually use and what furniture you use most, for example: access to the toy box will be essential but do you always need access to the dresser, in which case layout 6 may be better? Layout 3 doesn’t flow so well but it might work for you as it brings furniture off the walls while still being able to keep an eye on the kids playing in the corner. Depending on where exactly your fireplace is located, you can create a lovely contemporary composition with your TV. Have a look at the quick model I have put together. Comments (5)Heres where the TV is Minnie, i think it probably is a bit of an awkward location for it but the room layout with two doors and an archway make it difficult to place. i really appreciate both of your suggestions, definitely want to get a bigger rug at some point, we only got the one we have from ikea (it was fairly cheap) just to see how a rug worked and we both love how it breaks the wooden floor up as it can feel a bit cold. Minnie, I did orginally have the larger sofa under the lights but then the smaller sofa looked lost against the other wall but I think you might be right and for symmetry it would be better swapped over. ive never thought about a lamp! thats a good idea actually! yes Minnie the country/rustic style is very much my look. the kitchen is a similar style too. 7 years agoNothing wrong with Ikea :-) The Soderhamn chair is big. You might want to look at something like the Mellby chair. To show you the difference in size, I've done a floor plan to scale of your room. The white one is the Soderhamn chair, the grey one is the Mellby.
I used Billy for the cabinets flanking the fireplace.
