Pale Grey Sofa looks more Beige than Grey!

I am really struggling to find cushions that go with this sofa. I've tried grey silk cushions, the Loren sofa cushion from John Lewis which is a mix of yellow & grey, teal cushions, pale gold silk cushions, charcoal etc but none of them suit this sofa. When I originally purchased the sofa in the store it looked grey (colour is called Sable), but at home i cannot figure out the colour whether it's more of a beige-Grey or not. The sofa has matching chairs x 2 and these have white leather and white piping on them. I don't know whether I should just get creams/white cushions. Presently nothing works. I had originally wanted to mix in teal & yellow with the grey but doesn't look right. Please can you help me? My walls are Skimming Stone & Purbeck Stone. Here's a few photos of the room.

Hi. Maybe its the style of the sofa with the low arms? What size and shape have you tried? I'd try a couple of smallish (40-45cm?) rectangular cushions with a throw over one arm. I'd personally avoid cream and probably gold but I can't see why a deep teal or yellow wouldn't work. The sofa looks like a true grey on my screen btw!

Hi Minnie, thank you so much for answering! I've tried the following but they didn't really work. 2 x rectangular on the the 2 chairs with a matching rectangular one in the middle of the sofa, 2 x square ones at either end of sofa. Here's some photos of what I had tried.

To give you a wild card what about a maple laminate or even a nice modern carpet in a cream or pale grey, pale blue or pale pink. Yes you'll see what I'm getting at a pale colour of flooring would be better looking in my opinion. ( I have oak hardwood flooring with a really pale silver grey wall in my lounge I also have OHW in my hallway with Apple white walls so I concur with the oak suggestion too although I wanted maple coloured hard wood when we were decorating??!! Both Ral 7032 and 7044 would look great. I would lean more towards a concrete grey which would be the 7044. I think it would depend on the exact colour of the red brick - if it is dark l would go light and if it is a rather pale red l would go darker. But l do agree that anthracite needs a break!

Hiya, The color of the sofa is lovely, you just need to create the appropriate surrounding palette. You could use a rug in grey colors, cushions is grey patterns as well, along with some pale pinks/ pale blush pink or light blue, teal would work. Combine different materials as well, like leather (faux leather) in brown tones but remember to mix them up with some more neutral grey ones. Minnie - I used the yellow & grey mix one which is rectangular for the 2 chairs and 1 on sofa.

Hi Lauren. It's from TKMaxx, it actually looks far nicer in real life. Managed to get 2 of them and the teal colour is stunning. Glad you like it.

The pale gold looks yellow so looks as if it would work! I'd go for a deeper teal rather than turquoise. I'd go to a shop that sells lots of cushions in different sizes with an easy return policy to see what works. For the chair you could try something this size and shape. For the sofa you could try either of these. My preference would be the bottom pic and a throw over the left arm. You could mix deep teals and forest/palm greens. Having seen your light, it might look nice with a palm leaf cushion on a white background with a smaller plain teal cushion in front.

Hi Minnie. I do prefer teals, aquas & duck egg blues tbh over yellow. I just thought a pop of yellow would also work, however I could have a vase of yellow tulips to do that? The two chairs won't be next to the sofa when the room is finished, they will sit either side of the front window.

You could add a little blush pink, coral, apricot, orange or shades of purple to those blues. Other than colours mentioned before anything should work with the sofa which is why I wondered whether it was the layout and size of cushions used that you didn't like and you just need to play around with lots of cushions until you find a layout you like. Maybe also try patterned ones, maybe with a white background, rather than all solid colours. For the solid cushion try like a textured weave or similar as I think it will work better with the leather rather than silk.

Have you already chosen or bought curtains? If so I would perhaps wait until you have these up, and maybe some artwork and a rug before revisiting the cushions. I think because the sofa has a cushioned top and back it doesn't lend itself so easily to having lots of cushions, maybe a rectangle cushion on the chair and a toning throw with a few different shades in it over one end of the sofa will be enough. Also, whilst a lot a people might recommend firm, overstuffed cushions in most cases, maybe the cushions will sit better if they are slightly less full and more squishy? Just a thought, you'd have to experiment with that.

Hi Kikimack, thanks for your suggestions. I've not bought any artwork yet. I've a quad sheepskin rug (cream) that I may use in the lounge but unsure yet. My other items of furniture are a mirrored nest of tables, black glossy console table that has 2 black/nickel tall pillar lamps with black drum shades on it and a square mirror that sits above on the wall. I prefer gold to silver/chrome so tried to bring in that colour with the monkey lamps and the gold hand but not really sure that this works? Perhaps I'd be better off sticking to silver instead of gold. My problem is that I do like everything to match!
