Inspiration for wide kitchen drawer

Hi everyone,

I would love your thoughts on what I can do with this kitchen drawer. I was told by the company that it could be used for the cooking spoons, but as you can see from the photo, there is only 1 section big enough for these big spoons!

I'd love to be able to use it for cooking spices if that's an option.

I wouldn't say they're meant for spices. I have an 800 drawer pack under my hob. The top drawer has a collection of utensils in it, namely knives, forks, teaspoons, long latte coffee spoons, pastry cutters, carving knife/bread knife/carving fork altogether in one section, tin opener, wooden spoons, scissors, ladle to name but a few.

If you want somewhere to store spices a 150mm base unit with a chrome inset would have been perfect for this.

Mulled this over, overnight! Decided, way too much building work and knocking about to justify the cost, plus you lose the garage, which will most probably devalue as per Jonathan's comment above. Makes house less saleable, as main lounge now not seperate from rest of downstairs, therefore less appealing to some. Plus, having a room labelled Study / Play area / Entertaining............cannot see how you could possibly furnish such a room, too many dual purposes. My plan below, keeps it far more simple. Leave the garage, leave the Utility and Pantry, but change their uses. One becomes downstairs shower room, the other changes from pantry to Utility. Build across the end of the Hallway and make the area under the stairs a coat room. ( handy storage), this then seperates the back of the house from the front of the house. Now take out the downstairs loo and remove both walls, this opens up the Kitchen / Diner into one big space. Add a door from the kitchen to the playroom, which you can leave open to keep an eye on the kids. You have made massive improvements with far less building works, and, should you want to at some stage make the space even bigger at the back, which isn't necessary, you could add a ground floor rear extension. ( last plan shows this ) The above layout will appeal to far more people, should you wish to sell in the future.

We chose to put our sink in our island as it was the best place for it. Our island is very long so it can accommodate the sink on one end with a clear space on the other end for seating - I am personally very against having a hob in the island as it will send splatters of hot oil etc. across the island and people (kids) sitting there. I also think the current trend for open shelves is odd - I always think they just end up looking cluttered (beyond the perfected curated pages of houzz), and everything will get dusty and oily if near the hob. One thing that we did in our kitchen was include a defined tiled area around the island - I love it and everyone comments on it. It may help add that little bit of extra in your design. (please ignore 1) our bar stools - we still need to get 2 more! and 2) the hole on the left where our broken wine fridge is waiting to be replaced!)

However, if your cabinet is actually two pieces that can be separated, you could alternatively create more symmetry by placing the fridge centrally in between them. I would place the cabinets flush against the walls, leaving an equal gap around each side of the fridge. Consider cutting the skirting board to make them truly flush for a built in look (or alternatively use a thin filler piece painted to match.) Then you would need two boards… one atop the cabinets wall to wall, and a shorter one along the top of the fridge that goes cabinet to cabinet.
